treacherous supply routes, many of
which were harassed by dangerous
enemy artillery fire, he labored dili
gently and steadily to insure that at
no time would his battalion run
short of ammunition.

FueFon For Cooking
And Hot Water
OVA District Director Theodore S.
Johnson today advised householders
in Eastern North Carolina who cook
or heat water with oil, that they
may now obtain fuel rations for use
in their oil cooking stoves and hot
water heaters, even though they
have a coal or wood burning stove or
furnace available.
The restrictions which formerly
precluded fuel oil rationing for do
mestic cooking and for heating water
where coal or wood burning stoves
or furnaces were available, have
been lifted for the period from May
1 to September 30, he explained.
"This does not mean that the fuel
oil supply situation has eased", John
son said, "but similar action was
taken the past two summers, and
the supply of fuel for civilians 'dur
ing the present heating season is
about the same, or slightly less, than
it was then."
