Cadet Nurse Corps Continues "The United States Cadet Nurse Corps must intensify its recruitment of student nurses for summer and fall classes to meet ciyilian health needs," Dr. Thomas Parran, Surgeon General of the Public Health Service, Federal Security Agency, Baid. Dr. Parran issued this, -statement in answer to inquiries about the effect on cadet nurse recruitment of he Army's announcement that it has enough nurses for the present to as sure adequate care of sick and wounded soldiers. "To maintain the flow of senior cadets into Army ser vice, it is imperative to keep re cruitment at high levels," Dr. Parran explained. "Equally important, how ever, is the contribution cadet nurses have made in preventing the collapse of civilian nursing. We must con tinue to prepare nurses for needs in fields of nursing where the demand is expanding, especially the care of veterans." Dr. Parran characterized as completely unfounded rumors that recruitment for the Cadet Nurse Corps would be discontinued and call ed for support for the summer and fall recruitment drive now under way. Farmers To Get More Lumber To Repair Homes An additional 23,000,000 board feet of lumber has been allotted to the War Food Administration for distri bution to farmers for emergency maintenance and repair of farm HwellinirH in the third quarter of 1945, WPB announced. Farmers make application for the lumber to the County Agricultural Conservation Committees, and approved applica tions are rated AA-3 by delegation of authority from WPB to WFA. Emergency cases for which applica tions will be approved are limited to repair of damage caused by fire, flood or similar aisaster, or rejrau ui dwellings that would be uninhabitable or a definite hazard to the health of the occupants if not repaired imme diately, WPB said. Warranted Vehicle Dealers Need OPA Authorisation To Sell To protect buyers who pay war ranted prices for used passenger au tomobiles, trucks and motorcycles, OPA announced that only sellers who have adequate reconditioning and service facilities will be permitted to charge warranted prices after Aug ust 1. A warranted vehicle is a ve hicle in good operating condition and carrying a written guarantee under which the seller agrees to make stat ed repairs at 50 per cent of his nor mal charges during the 30 days fol lowing sale or the first 1,000 miles of oDeration. whichever comes first. Forms upon which sellers may apply to OPA for permission to sell war ranted vehicles are now available at War Price and Rationing Boards. On these aDDlications sellers must sup ply OPA with information about their repair facilities or the facilities of their , service suppliers. If they show facilities qualifying them to charge warranty prices, they will be sent art "authorization to sen at warranted prices. No seller can charge these prices on and after Aug ust 1 unless he has an OPA authori zation, which he mus.t display in his place of business. Dealers denied authorizations by OPA district of fices may appeal to regional admin istrators, and if denied by them, may appeal to the price administrator, OPA Postpones Auto Repair Regulation Effective date of the new regula tion setting specific limits on the hours of labor that can be charged for on 56 common passenger car re pair jobs has been postponed one month, until July 14, 1345, VfA an nounced. The regulation, originally announced aa effective June 14, 1946, is designed to check a practice in some automobile repair shops of charging customers for more hours of labor than repairs actually re quire. OPA said that the postpone ment was requested by representa tives of the trade who desired to have further consultations about the new provisions before they became effective.
