N., is spend ing his leave with his parents, Mr, and Mrs. E. Lee Winslow, at their home on Dobb Street. Returns To Base Marvin Lee Simpson has returned to the Naval Receiving Station at Norfolk, Va., after spending a 30-day leave' with his wife and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Simpson. He was accompanied to Norfolk by his wife who will remain with him for a short time. Sunday In Norfolk Mrs. John Lane, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Boyce, arrived here last Friday, after having received a discharge from the U. S. Navy. MISSIONARY SOCIETY MEETS The Woman's Missionary Society of the Hertford Baptist Church met Monday evening with Mrs. I. A. Ward presiding. The meeting was opened with the hymn "Lead On, O King Eeternal." I'rayer was given by Mrs. Tom Madre. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and ap proved. Roll call revealed that Cir cle No. Four had the most members present. Mrs. Marjorie White, Young Peo ple's director, ave an interesting talk on Moral Standards of W. M. U. Mrs. Howard Dawkins then led in prayer. Mrs. J. W. Ward gave a talk on The Youth of Our W. M. U. Mrs. Mark Gregory closed the meet ing with prayer. SOCIETY MEETS The Delia Shamburger Missionary Society of the Methodist Church met on Monday evening with Mrs. D. F. Reed, at her home on Dobb Street. Mrs. W. II. Pitt had charge of the program and those taking part were Miss Elizabeth Knowles, Mrs. Pitt and Mrs. ('. T. Skinner. Members present were Mrs. W' II. Pitt. Mrs. Edgar Morris, Mrs. J. H. Towe, Mrs. Cecil Winslow, Mrs. J. 0. Felton, Mrs. C. T. Skinner and Miss Eliza beth Knowles. The hostess served a sweet course at the close of the meeting. ENTERTAINS AT BRIDGE Mrs. J. (I. Roberson was hostess to her bridge club on Thursday even ing at her home on Grubb Street. Mrs. V. N. Darden won high score prize and Miss Kate Blanchard re ceived low score award. Those pres ent were Meqsdames R. M. Riddick, J. O. Felton, V. N. Darden, H. G. Winslow, B. G. Koonce and Jimm Johnson and Miss Kate Blanchard. A sweet course was served. HOSTESS TO BRIDGE CM B Mrs. Herman Winslow entertained her bridge club on Tuesday evening at her home on Grubb Street. Mrs. J. 0. Felton won high score prize. Mrs. B. G. Koonce second high and low score award went to Mrs. J. G. Roberson. Those present were Mes- dames B. G. Koonce, V. N. Darden, R. M. Riddick, J. O. Felton, W. G. Wright and J. G. Roberson and Miss Kate Blanchard. A sweet course was served. ENTERTAINS AT BRIDGE Mrs. Jimmy Johnson was hostess to members of her bridge club at her home on Front Street on Wednesday evening. Miss Joyce Harrell won high score prize and second high was presented Mrs. Frank Stevenson. Those present were Mesdames R. M. Wallace, Frank Stevenson, Al Kenton, R. E. Vickers, W. E. Drake and Vivian Mathews and Miss Joyce Harrell. A sweet course was served. HOSTESS AT BRIDGE Mrs. W. G. Wright entertained her bridge club at the home of Mrs. T. B. Sumner on Front Street. Mrs. Jonas Futrell won high score prize and Mrs. J. 0. Felton won second high. Those present were Mesdames J. G. Roberson, Herman Winslow, B. G. Koonce, J. S. Vick, J. 0. Felton, V. N. Darden and Jonas Futrell, and Miss Kate Blanchard. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostess. HELEN GAITHER CLUB MEETS The Helen Gaither Home Demon stration Club met on Thursday even ing with Mrs. Warner Madre. The meeting was called to order by the vice president. Miss Maness, home agent, read a short piece on "Do You Know These National An thems?" "The Star Spangled Ban ner" was sung and the club repeat ed "The Americans' Creed." The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved and the roll was called. During the business session Mrs. Jake Chesson and Mrs. Tom Madre were appointed as a committee to select the new officers for next year. The picnic was also discussed and decided upon for August 23. Miss Maness distributed the ma terial to several of the members for making, bed socks for the, Red Cross. Mrs. J.T.
