fci six J. NEW HOPE NEWS Mrs. Quinton Hurdle of Norfolk spent the week-end with relatives in New Hope. Lieut Arcie Turner and Mrs. Tur ner of Washington, D. C, are visiting Lieut Turner's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Turner. Mr. and Mrs. E. Austin Dail and daughter, Sandra, have returned to their home in Washington, D. C, af ter spending several days with Mr. Dail's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Dail. Wilbur Sawyer, USN, of Norfolk, was the week-end guest of his moth er and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Turner. Mr. and Mrs. Lathan Umphlett and Mrs. W. K. Barclift of Elizabeth City spent Sunday afternoon here with friends. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Benson of Eliza beth City spent Sunday with Mrs. Berta Hobbs. Mr. and Mrs. Moulton Umphlett and son, Billy, of Greenville, N. C, and Mrs. T. B. Walters of Hertford were guests of Mr. and Mrs. V. E. Dail on Sunday. Woodley Spencer has returned to his home in Norfolk after spending several davs with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Spencer. Mrs. Haywood Umphlett spent the week-end with friends in Whaleyville, Va. Mrs. S. D. Banks is visiting rela tives in Norfolk. BRIDE'S SHOWER Mrs. Moody Mathews was hostess to a number of friends at a shower Tuesday night at her home compli mentary to Mrs. Frances J. Henry. Contests and games were played, with Mrs. P. E. Lane, Mrs. Tommie Mathews, Mrs. H. S. Davenport and Miss Willie Mae Mansfield winning prizes. Wishes were written in the bride s book. "Trade Here And Bank Tte Difference" . HERTFORD, N. C. CIRCLE MEETING Circle No. 2 of the Women's Mis sionary Society of the Hertford Bap tist Church held its regular monthly meeting with Mrs. V. A. Holdren Monday evening. Mrs. Charles John son presided. Also in the absence of the program chairman, Mrs. Johnson had prepared a very interesting pro gram, the subject being "Justified By Faith." The hymn "My Faith Looks Up to Thee" was sung and Mrs. Ray- mond SHunner gave the devotional. Mrs. Pennington offered prayer and Mrs. Johnson gave a reading, "The Power of God Under Salvation." Mrs, B. T. Wood then led in prayer. The hymn "Have Thine Own Way" was sung and the program was closed by repeating the Lord's Prayer. Mrs. R. A. Holmes presided over the business session. The minutes of the last meeting were read. Old and new business was discussed, after which !a social hour was enjoyed. The hostess, assisted by Mrs. Tommy Miller and Mr8i..?,- 7- Wood served a dainty chicken salad course with hot jpotfe' and-,, pound cake .with whipped ereanl,, which was thoroughly enjoyed. The following officers were nominated: Mrs. Josiah Proctor, president; Mrs. J. H. Ayscue, vice president; Mrs. Tommie Mathews, secretary and treasurer; Mrs. Walter Trueblood, song leader. Samples of cheese made and aged by Mrs. Winston E. Lane were served the club members and all voted it a perfect success. This was the first cheese made by the club.. The meeting was called to order by the Vice-president, and "Lead On, O King Eternal" was sung. The collect was repeated. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved and the roll was called. . After the business was over, Miss Maness, Home Demonstration Agent, gave an interesting demonstration on, "Know Your Fabric's." The meeting closed with the club repeating the Lord's Prayer. The recreation leader, Mrs. Milton Dale, gave a very interesting contest.
