Memorial Field was jammed with the largest crowd of the season last Monday night when Eliza beth City came here to gain another bit of revenge at the expense of the Hertford Indians. It was a bitter grape for the Senator fans to swal low when : the Indians knotted the count at 2-2 and then went ahead to win. . . We resent the . statement of an Elizabeth City radio commentator who in discussing tty lO-0 defeat the Indiana handed Elizabeth City last week, called Memorial Field a "bond box" park. Surely, had four of the Senators smacked home runs, instead of the Indians, no doubt the expert would have gleefully proclaimed the "hitting power" of his home team Anyway, Mr. &rougn, well matcn our field against any jn the country. The Hertford Indians are hanging up some kind of a record in double plays. Although we haven't seen an official "record, we will argue that the Hertford infield has completed more double plays than any club in the league, and while on the subject, we will also say that Centerfielder (Ar chie Briggman leads the league in stolen bases. Evidently the official record keeper for the league hasn't heard about Archie for he credits some other player as having the most, a record of six. We ve seen Archie -steal at' least 15 bases. Agricultural Conditions Satisfactory, Says Dr. Forster North Carolina farmers can look forward to a prosperous year in 1948, according to Dr. G. W. Forster, head of the Agricultural Economics Department at . State College, who said the national economy is in a highly satisfactory condition, and the immediate future is bright This means, he believes, that agri cultural conditions, with a few pos sible exceptions, will also be satisfactory. Explaining his reasoning behind such a prediction, Dr. Forster says that farm prosperity depends almost directly on the condition of the na tional economy. Therefore, a close relationship exists between the pros perity of farming in North Carolina and America's industrial activity. As Dr. Forster" sees it, this indus trial activity will remain high 'during the next several years, and as a con sequence, the agricultural income of this state will remain in .favorable position. tyfc ??r$t ROBERT W.
