Miss Annie .Garris
Weds Burrus Chappeii
The marriage of Miss Annie Eliza
Garris, the daughter of Mr." and Mrs,
Grover Cleveland. Garris, of Ayden,
and Burrus Thomas Chappeii, the son
of Mrs. John Squire Chappeii of Ty
ner, and the late Mr. Chappeii, took
place on November 30 in the Elm
Grove Church. The Rev. J. C. Moye
performed the double ring ceremony.
Mrs. Ruth Clark of Greenville
played the wedding muyic. Miss Mary
Ida Moye of Snow Hill sang.
The bride, given in marriage by her
father, was attired in a frost white
flannel herring bone suit. Her hat
was a halo-style matching felt trim
med with black veil to match other
accessories. She carried a white
prayer book topped with a white or
chid. Her only attendant was her sister,
Mrs. Wesley R. Green of Durham,
who wore a blue gabardine suit with
pink accessories and carried a bouquet
of pink carnations.
Wesley R. Green of Durham was
best . man. Ushers were brothers of
the bride, Edward Garris of Wilming
ton and Ray Garris.
The mother of the bride wore a
black gabardine suit with black ac
cessories and a corsage of red roses.
Mrs. Dallas McPherson of Littleton
acted as mistress of ceremonies.
An informal reception at the home
of the bride's parents followed the
ceremony. Saturday evening after
the rehearsal the wedding party was
entertained at a cake-cutting, also at
the home of the bride.
After a brief wedding trip, Mr. and
Mrs. Chappeii will be at home at Bel
vid 're.
Mrs. Chappeii, who is a graduate of
the East Carolina Teachers College,
is at the head of the commercial de
partment of the Perquimans County
High School. Mr. Chappeii is en
gaged in business in Belvidere.
Prior to her marriage the bride was
the guest of honor at several parties
both in Ayden and in Hertford.
Music Class And Glee; :
Club To Present Shows
Members of the graded school mu;
sic classes, under the direction of Mrs.
Ethel Hopkins, and assisted by grade
teachers, presented an operetta at the
Grammar School auditorium Thurs
day night. The operetta, entitled
"The Toymaker's Dreain," was writ
ten and directed by Mrs. Hopkins.
A music minstrel show, written and
directed by Mrs. Hopkins, will be
presented by the High1 School Glee
Club at the High School' auditorium
Tuesday night, December 16k Mem
bers of the Glee Club having parts in
the minstrel are Thelma White, Jo
anr.e Trueblood, Reginald Tucker,
Howard Broughton, Pat Phillips,
Catherine Goodman, Betty Ruth
Chappeii and Howard Pitt, soloists;
Lindsay Reed and Clarence Madre,
headmen, and Donald Hopkins, Clark
son White, Jimmy Robbins, Howard
Pitt, Roy Lamb, Robert Evans, as
comedians and 'a host of young ladies
as the chorus.

cial music will be rendered, and a
short play, "Sensible Christmas."

Training Meet Friday
All veterans in Perquimans County
who are on the farm and are inter
ested in taking the veterans' "on-the-'
farm" training are" requested to meet
in the Perquimans County. Court
House on Friday night, December 12,
at 7:30. At that time complete infor
mation and. instructions will be given
out for the enrollment of the new

Dies From Burns
Dance Revue Well
Received By Audience
A dance revue staged here last
Friday night under the sponsorship of
the Hertford Grammar School PTA
was well received by the small audi
ence which attended the revue.
The performance was presented by
students of a dancing school of Nor
folk, and each of the individual per
formers, dressed in very becoming
costumes, gave excellent exhibitions
of various dance routines.
A silver offering collected by the
PTA amounted to $20.

Mariah Everett, 70-year-old Negro
resident of Hertford, died at the Al
bemarle Hospital early Wednesday
morning from burns suffered Tuesday
morning when a stove in her home ex
ploded. The woman was pouring oil on a
smoldering fire when the explosion
occurred. The Hertford Fire Depart
ment 'was called to the scene and ren
dered assistance, but the flash fire
had burned so badly little hope was
held for the recovery of the aged
woman.
