Darst, director of the State Department of Agriculture seed lab oratory, has warned farmers to guard against misbranded or misrepresented hybrid seed corn. ' - fThe Tennessee 10 . and Dixie 17 corn' hybrids have given excellent re sults over a large area of the south," Darst explained, "and their popularity has led to the possibility of misbrand ing and misrepresentation." ,. He explained; that the inbred lines involved in the production of these lines, as well as Tennessee 14 and 15 and Dixie 44, have not been released for commercial '.production by the southern experiment stations. v ' ' "When the" first: crosses involving inbred lines for these hybrids are re leased to seed growers by the Foun dation' Seed Producers" Associations," Darst said, "ft will be with the agree ment that the seed crops shall be cer tified. Such seed are usually sold in sealed containers and always bear a state certification tag. - - 'tff a bag of Tennessee ,10 or Dixie 17 hybrid seed corn does not carry a state certification tag, it should be assumed that the seed could not be certified because of improper detas seling or handling;, or because the seed so labeled is not as represented. "It would, therefore, seem quite obvious that any of these hybrids sold as such without certification tags and i the seal of a state certifying agency would be misbranded."' T .' ' a-- a -.
