THE PERQUIMANS WEEKLY, rfERTPOSO, M. C, TSEtiXi SEPTEMBER 3, 1948." PAGE FIVE nfr MEMORY OF OTIS MARSHALL WINSLOW People of the Whitest'on community and' many friends and relatives of other localities wer deeply saddened by the sudden . and tragic death of Otis ; Marshall , Winslow, who was drowned at Harvey's Point August 27 at 4:00 P. M. The "Young People's Missionary So ciety of the Up River Fnei'ds Church were having tneir annual picnic. The weather was sultry and the young people decided . a trip to the beach would be just the thing. v They were 'having an enjoyable time, but we are reminded "In the midst of life there fe death. None of the group knew that beneath the cooling waters there lay an ugly ex cavation made by a dredging machine during the late war, and unaware Otis slipped in. He could not swim, neith er could his friends who were next to him. Several in the group who could swim reached the spot as quickly as possible and began ffifbg far Us but they found the body too Has. JSM efforts of resuedtatlan west la Tab, His only brother, Just two tcM bit senior, was a witness to ths tragio scene. As long as we live we will never forget Otis for he, in his short sev enteen years, left us so much to re member. His sweet cheerful disposi tion, his willingness to serve in any capacity in home, church or school. His love for the beautiful especially music and flowers. The comfort he was to his afflicted grandmother in the home. The stand he took as a Christian, in fact his life in general. A host of friends mourn his depart ure. This world has indeed been a better place in which to live because of him. His sweet spirit will ever be with us, especially in our church. We thank God for his life, for the ex ample he set, and for the inspiration he was and is to those who knew him best many, I feel, will draw just a t little closer to Jesus because of him. His sweet spirit seems to beckon us on and eurely we do want to clasp once again that hand that I feel is still reaching out to us. We shall miss him but we must bow in humble submission to Him who makes no mistakes. In behalf of many of his friends. By Mary W. Winslow.
