Be Sure To Vote Tomorrow, June 4, citizens of North Carolina will have an opportunity, through an election, to express their opinions in regard to a major govern mental operation, as proposed by the administrative element of our State government This election is being held for the purpose of determining whether or not the citizens of North Carolina favor placing themselves in debt for $200, 000,000 in order to expedite the con struction' of secondary roads through out the Sfete, and $25,000,000 for building school houses. We believe that our position in re gards to these issues are clear, but we repeat to our readers that we are against the proposed $200,000,000 road bond proposal, BUT, are for the issuance of $25,000,000 for school buildings As we have stated, we believe that it is unnecessary to borrow such sum of money as 200 million dollars to construct our secondary roads; it is our conviction that this program can be carried out successfully during the next four to eight years on esti mated revenue which will be available. We firmly believe that our State Gov ernment should instigate a road build- ng program on a pay-as-you-go basis, and save the taxpayers of North Caro- linn tllA millions nf rirkllArs .in interact charges, which the' people will be burdened with in the event money is . borrowed for the purpose. We also stand opposed to any in crease in the tax on gasoline, which automatically becomes' effective in the event the road bond issue is voted- by the people. Reports show that the national average tax on gasoline i3 today 4.37 cents per gallon. North Carolina's motorists will pay 8.75 cents per gallon if the majority of vot ers favor the borrowing of this 200 million dollars for roads. . This election tomorrow is an im portant one, and it effects every citi zen of the State. .The outcome of the election will effect you whether you vote or not and because the issues in volved may be so far reaching in years to come we urge every eligible , voter to cast his ballot on the questions. Greetings, Graduates To the 50-odd students of Perquim ans High School who received diplom as at commencement exercises, field Monday night, as tokens on the com pletion of four years of high school study we offer our congratulations. Some of you were outstanding schol ars, some starred in athletics, others of you, seemngly, merely members 'of your class but even that is an honor of which you can be proud, for while it may appear that some of you failed to receive recognition for outstanding achievement you all played a grand part in making up and steerng the class through the four years of high school. Now that yc(ur high chool days, are over, all of you have plans, some of you will go to college, others into jobs, some maybe into business. What ever your plans we wish you every success and happiness in the future. Praises Paper Advertising The newspaper, with its printed word, in the view of Joseph W. Praser, Vice-Chairman of the Kaiser-Fraser Corporation, is still the backbone, not only of automobile advertising, but of all products. While nearly every newspaper man will agree with the conclusions voiced by Mr. Fraser, there is no harm, from the journalistic viewpont, in passing his words along. "The printed word has more authen ticity than the spoken word of radio," declares Mr. Fraser, who, m a brief sentence, give3 the explanation for the continual growth of, newspaper circu lation despite radio competition. The reader of the printed word, whether it appears in newspapers, magaznes, pamphlets or books, under stands very readily that when one puts words in print, there 13 no say ing, "I didn't say it." Consequently, those who write for the record are more apt to be careful and exact in their statements. This, of itself, is worth something to the discriminating reader.
