by motorists and parent.''
The knowledge thai he may not be
legally responsible, for an accident in
volving a child would be small conso
lation to any driver, the Motor Vehicle
Department official pointed out. The
parent' remorse will always stem
not 'rom what he did, but from what
he did not do. It is the. parent's obli
gation to teach his child safe traffic
habits, and the motorists responsi
bility to give the child the benefit of
his most careful driving.
The North Carolina. Department of
Motor Vehicles' program' of traffic
safety education for April has as its
theme: Child Pedestrian and Bicycle
Safety.
"Play Safe Walk Safely," Fisher
said, "is our slogan for this month's
program. It's one that we must im
press on the mimb of children, par
ents, and motorists. North Carolina
doesn t have one child to spare as an
accident victim!"

That is the warning issued by L.

droves of North Carolina's small fry
onto streets and playgrounds.

Fisher explained that when spring

saiety training learned in the Fall
may have been largely forgotten.
