' - -PAGE TEN TTT3 PETvQUIMANS WI""LY, T t - if ct r rvv For n,0,P,Q Drivers To Rcnav Licenses In an effort to avoid a last minute rush for driver's and chauffeur's li censes as the June 30 deadline nears, the Department of Motor Vehicles an nounced today that chauffeurs mar annlv for renewals beginning May 1 instead of on May 15 as in the past. Chauffeurs must Obtain renewals for the 1950-51 fiscal year by June 80 and drivers whose surnames begin with N, 0, P and Q also must have r.ew licenses by that date. A total of 41,000 chauffeurs were licensed last year and a larger number of applica tions are expected this year. Depart ment officials feel that extra 15-day li censing period will give all persons in the chauffeur category an opportunity to have their new license cards in hand before their old ones expire. AN persons driving vehicles for hire come in the chauffeur group. Although a little over two months remain in which N. O. P and Q driv ers may obtain renewals, only one-half of this group has reported to driver's license examiners for renewals. The State's examiners face the prospect of handling approximately 120,000 ap plicants in these two groups during May and June. The Department also reported that the cheuffeur's application form is being changed this year to conform with the operator's form. In the fu ture the two forms will be filed to gether, as a time-saving device. The chauffeur's forms will be a light green in order that they may be detected easily. Operator's applications are printed on white paper.
