Treat Peanut Seed.
For Better Stands
Treating peanut seed with recom
mended fungicides will assure Tar
Heel peanut growers of greater wo
lf its through improved stands ' and
higher yields, according to plant di
sease scientists with the North Caro-1
Una Experiment Station. s 1
W. E. Cooper explains that care
fully dusting hand-shelled and machine-shelled
peanut seed will pre
vent seed decay. He recommends use
of Arasan, 2 per cent Ceresan, Yellow
ICuprocide, or Spergon, all available)
from seed, hardware, and drug stores
in most sections of the State.
(Recommended amounts of the fungi-!
cides for application to 100 pounds of
seed are: Arasan, S ounces; 2 per
cent Ceresan, 4 ounces; Yellow Cupro
cide, 4 ounces; and Spergon, 4 ounces.
(Cost of materials for treating 100
pounds of seed ranges from 14 cents
for Yellow iCuprocide to 56 cents for
Spergon. '
The Experiment Station scientist
says the barrel treater often used with!
cotton seed, is suitable for peanut seed
treatment if turned very slowly. If I
operated too quickly, seed may be
damagd. A barrel or drum with a
tight-fitting lid may be used, iti
should be rolled slowly along' the
ground or floor to coat the seed.
Watever the equipment, the contain
er should be filled about half full with
a known weight of peanut seedT The
required amount of seed protectant
should then be carefully measured
same lot of seed should never be
treated With more than one material.
METHODIST MEN ORGANIZE
A new organization of - Methodist
Men in Perquimans Methodist Church,
and added. Best results are obtained! has been chartered by Methodism's
when each seed is completely coated 'General Board of Lay Activities in
with a layer of dust by slowly ro
tating the treater T. '
Cooper points out that peanut seed
can be treated safely any time from
90 days before planting until just be
fore being placed in the planter. Care
should be used, he warns, to use
treated seed only for planting. The

GENTLEMEN: ? ' . ' '

First, we very sincerely say that we greatly appreciate the privilege of serving you with
your requirements of gasoline, kerosene, motor oik and greases as you find need for these
items, and in appreciation of this privilege, we have set up for your convenience systems that
we feel are a definite help in obtaining your five cents per gallon refund for gasoline used in
non-highway equipment. However, there are strict requirements relative to this particular
privilege that we feel we should discuss with you, and please understand that we are truly in
terested in your welfare s well as our own in making the following statement: '
The North Carolina Department of' Revenue definitely statest "Delivery tickets or in
'voices must carry a statement made by the seller THAT. THE TAX REFUND WILL BE
REQUESTED. THEY MUST BE MARKED PAID BY THE SELLER and MUST NOT
SHOW ANY ALTERATIONS OR ERASURES."
A small percentage of you gentlemen from time to time become delinquent in the pay
ment of the deliveries of these petroleum products, and we are sure that it has never crossed
your mind that we are not only sellers of these products, but have automatically and without
choice become tax collectors for the State and Federal Governments and that these taxes must
be remitted for without fail, and to properly comply with .these requirements WE MUST
COLLECT FOR DELIVERING within a very reasonable length bf time.
We ask that you be careful in determining those amounts used in non-highway equip
ment, and bear in mind that we are always anxious to serve you in any manner possible, but
in order to serve you best, we must have your cooperation in these matters. '
We are about at the starting point of another crop year, and may we say that we wish
for you the best of weather conditions for the economical crop and prices satisfactory to all.
