Stronger Check For Inflation Recommending the strengthening of! the anti-inflation program, Economic Stabilizer Eric Johnston wants the President to ask ICongress for a con trol law that can actually stop the climb of prices. Mr. Johnston points out that price rises ' since Korea have increased by $,000,000,000 the cost to the taxpayers for the same amount of military equipment and warns that unless we stop inflation, $0,000,000,000 of equip-! irvent needed next year may cost the nation 1125,000,000,0000. The effort to stabilize prices and halt the inflationary trend presents many! difficulties but nothing is more vital )o the economic security of this country. The man iwho undertakes it will Meed almost dictatorial power and he will probably be the most unpopular citizen of the Republic before he fin ishes nis work. U.S. Cash Aids Nation's Production A record production .level is fore cast in the United States this year by officials of American manufacturer. The probability is that the predic tion will be fulfilled but only because the Federal (Government is pouring out the casli and stimulating the pro ducers. Not only is the' government paying high prices for what it re. quires, but manufacturers are being permitted to construct new produc tion facilities under a five-year write off, which means an immense saving in taxation. . The productive facilities of this country represent a source of strength to the nation in times of emergency. The same can be said for the work of laborers and the output of farmers. The essenial primer of production, however, is the cash that the govern ment lays on the line, AAAAsVaa(jssaa(lstjjts WarrtBetiirPe Seed Shelling? I The American political system has been the subject of considerable study but it is generally agreed that the nation has enjoyed an expanding de velopment of governmental theories, which have enabled us to maintain our personal liberties so that our good fortune : is envied by ' individuals throughout the .world. .'';'''-.'- Theoretical doubts as to the wis dom qff our legislative machinery dis appear in the admission that the na-j tion has- enjoyed a stable government in its , most trying tones. This has been .the result, however, of a yjj. I , VJ ingness on the part of ICongress to abrogate its nowers and to delegate (tremendous "nowers to executives in vf- f ice. After the crises have passed, thie!fiSures received from the 73 branch delegation of power has been largely nullified tout the habit of nassinsr problems to the President and thel000379 on March-12, an Executive Branch of the government?6'347 vehicles over the government continues. There are some improvements' which should be made in our Political 1 aMr. w rt. .! A--6 Constitution which would make 'Wie, Electoral ICollege vote of a state rep resentative of divided opinion. The probability is also that the future xne. will develop occasions to test power of the courts to set aside legis lation. After all, the judicial power to declare laws unconstitutional is not in the Constitution itself. . We do not imagine that the Ameri can governmental plan is perfect but one has to admit that it has worked pretty well. Imperfections should not blind us to the excellence of its achievements or the splendid manner in whicn it nas functioned, to serve the people of the nation. While we should not hesitate to amend, and to change existing structures, we should be careful that the process does not result in definite loss.
