According to the sec tion dealing with identification num bers it is unlawful for any nrm or person to buy. or dispose 01 any piece Lf firm miin-nnt bearilW ft wGfully defaced identification number. An af fixed new number, issued and author ised by the Department to replace tne 'altered one, is valid and insures a legal transaction. . Dealers in farm .machinery are re quired to furnish the .purchaser with a bill of sale bearing the manufactur ers serial number and must guarantee the number to be correct according to his own invoice from the mamxractur er. The Motor Vehicle Department makes special provision for owners of damaged farm machinery where the identification number has become un recognisable. An application to the suDDorted by adequate proof of ownership, may be filed by owners desiring to receive a valid new 'number for out dated and worn larm machinery.
