I 'say onto you, Inasmuch as' ye did it unto i t .. . il ' i . one 01 tnese my Dreuiren, even roese least, ye did It unto me," Matthew Z5. 40. Lesson Text: Romans 12: 9-21; 13:8-10. . Many of us do not find it so diffi cult to love our families, our relatives and our friends, but we feel that it just is impossible for us to "love", our neighbors. They are not even likable, we say. We don't approve of what they are, say or do. 1 . Jesus said ' the commandment to "Love Thy neighbor as thyself" was second only to-the first and greatest of all commandments, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God . . ." When ask ed the question, "And who is my neigh- bor?" Jesus replied with the parable of the Good Samaritan, which teaches that anyone who needs our help is our neighbor, whether he lives next door, 'on the other side of the tracks, or on the other side of the world. Paul picEs up this teaching of Jesus and repeats it in the twelfth chapter of Romans. This chapter reminds us very much of parts of the Sermon oa the Mount 'V Pauls has , much to say about love here, and throughout his writings. He felt that the basic in gredient for a Christian life is love love for God and consequent love for our fellowmen, The twelfth chapter of Romans is a discussion of the duties of a Chris tian as they apply to himself and his fellowman. The thirteenth chapter outlines the Christian's civic duties. Both chapters are summed up by Paul in his repetition of the exhortation of Jesus, Thou shalt love they neigh bor as thyself.!!. 4 is-interesting to learn that this commandment was not original with Jesus. It can be found in Leviticus 19:18 another proof that Jesus knew the Scriptures., r How does Paul say . the Christian should get along with his neighbor? He underlines and emphasizes the , word, "love." If you love, you won't be selfish, . Jf; you love, you won't be jealous, or envious, or covetous, or suspicious. ; You will want to "weep with -your neighbor - when he weeps and sincerely rejoice with him when there's an occasion for rejoicing. You will be forgiving, forgetting the unin tentional slight or wrong he has done you. 'If we will remember the words of Jesus, ' who said, "Do unto others as ye would that men should do unto you," we could live peaceably and hardly, with i out neighbors. .A' V ho are your neighbors, They are not TietSsSyilyj. those who live on either side of you,: and yet these are included. They are the underprivileg ed who need your help and influence in bettering their condition in life. They are the children who are on the borderline of juvenile delinquency in your community. They are the strangers in need of a friend. Are you a neighbor to these? The re sponsibility for their welfare is part ly yours. . .. What can you do to help? You, as a Christian, an show a sympathetic interest in them.4 Often, just the knowledge that there is someone who is interested, someone who cares, "can make all the difference in the world to those who feel neglected and de spondent It often supplies the need ed spark to a new start in life, To live peaceably in one's neigh borhood, the Christian should avoid suspicion, resentment and the repeti tion of gosrp. Henry Van Dyke gave good advice vx"n re said: There are two good j- ? t- V! 'i ought to be written on eveijt hr.cy Never be lieve anything bad about anybody un less you positively know hT to be" true: Never tell even what you know about it, unless you feel that it is aboslutely necessary' and that God is listening as you tell it." "-.'( nu a dutteb crnzizn co to coiiis ; " . - czruncn M. I'i! mm?' , a 1 1 S yS9'0 nr WW ' rs-. Could you play baseball without rules? No, in ' any game there are rules that must be followed. And it's because of these rules that the game it orderly and interesting. Without them a ball game would result in complete confusion, and neither the players nor the spectators would enjoy it at all. -r" So it is wijh society: Through the ages the Eeatest civilizations have been those with tha i st rules and laws.' Our. own United States Con stitution, a masterpiece in law, has proved that good government produces a great nation. Life must also have rules if we are to live hap pily. And to guide us toward this end God has given us a set of rules, which is known the world over as the Ten Commandments. Open your Bible and learn them today and tomorrow and always you'll be a better, happier person.:,' "SB CHURCH POI Alt . . fcAU KI THE CHUHCH 4 to niahd 1 Ja thong Chuioh. auw "VT HOB ' iwllli rot hit Bibl &j?Tt, your --V.-,Ti-.
