The award is in recognition of Mr. Robertson's heroism in saving the lives of a mother and two children from death by burning-, at Statesville, , on November 11, 1950. The letter, dated October 26, ad vising Mr. Robertson of the award, which had been forwarded from Statesville, was received today. Mr. Robertson, who is 81, is the son of Mr. and Mia. J. A. Robert son of Statesville. Asked about the rescue, he said, fit really was Just nothing. But the facts are that be was awakened shortly after midnight ' on the occasion and became aware of a great blaze of light. Believing bis own home was on fire, he ran to save his three children. His wife was in a hos pital at the time. Upon emerging from bis home, he discovered that the borne of his next door neighbor was in flames. ""Crashing the glass panel of the front door with his shoulder he dashed through the aperature. vHe unlocked the door after gaining en trance and made his way to the bed rooms where he awakened the mother and got her and one child out of the building. He then went back into the blazing building and got the second child. It was only after the house had gone up in flames, which was only a matter of minutes after the rescue, that he realized that his chest and knee were cut and that his feet were painfully burned. : Mr. Robertson, who succeeds Eldon ' Winslow as. October 27, it appears Perquimans County residents will purchase their quota of U. S. Defense bonds, in the cur rent bond sale, H was reported today by R. M. Riddick, county chairman, who stated sales through that date amounted to $11,763.25. This gave Perquimans a 97.9 per centage of its goal of $12,000 set for the present bond campaign. Mr. Riddick pointed out that the need for everybody to participate in the purchase of bonds in orded for the county to reach its goal, and he urged individuals - planning to buy bonds to do so immediately. Sgt William Lewis Is Returning Home Soon to be returning to- Hertford will be Staff Sergeant William E Lewis, son of J. H. Lewis of Edenton. Recalled to active duty with the Air Force January 1, 1951, from the In active Reserve, Staff Sergeant Lewis will complete his one year of prescrib ed service at the end of December this year. A veteran of World War II, with 18 months of overseas service to his credit, Staff Sergeant Lewis is the re cipient of the Philippine Liberation Service Medal with-two bronze battle stars. ...
