Loans for the construction or re pair of farm houses and barns have been made to 3 farmers in the two counties for a total of $20,595.00 since the Farm Housing Act of 1949 was passed. Farmers cooperating in this locality with the Farmers Home Administra tion, have been able to increase their production considerably per acre. This not only puts them in a better position to meet demands for defense food and fiber, but their increased incomes en able them to bear a larger share of the tax burden and their increased purchasing power makes them better customers of local merchant. Successful borrowers soon become. customers of local banks and coopera tive credit institutions. Moat families aided by the FHA program find them selves better able to support their lo cal churches, and participate in civic, farm, and other community organiza tkrns, .than they did before coming to the agency.
