The tremendous Federal load now amounts to $431 for every man, wo man, and child in the nation about $160 more than two years ago. In eluding state and local taxes, the per capita burden for fiscal 1952 was One section of the seventh edition of this handy reference volume pub lished by the Foundation, a private, non-profit government research or ganization with offices, in (Washing ton and New York, is devoted to the subject on Federal taxation. It points out that between 1950 and 1952 (fis cal years), the amount collected from Federal individual and corporate in come taxes alone "practically doubled." Tables in this same section show that 10 years ago the amount of Federal taxes collected was only about one fifth as large. Much of the material in the new volume illustrates the effect, in taxes, expenditures and debt, of fche na tion's entry in the Korean War. Ta bles in the first section, The Economy, for example, show how the defense stimulated production of goods and services rose to record levels; -how personal income kept pace with this rise; and how disposable personal income grew at a lesser rate, reflect ing the tremendous tax increases, The section on Government Debt shows that the total debt of all gov ernment at the end of fiscal 1951 was over $282 billion only about $3 bil lion less than at the World War II peak. Total debt increased by about $10 billion, it is shown; between 1949 and 1951 alone. The total Federal debt by itself is equivalent to about $1,650 for every man, woman, and child in the U. S.
