Miller has recently con structed a ditch on the back side of his farm to prevent woods water from entering his fields. He plans to revise the drainage system on this farm by cutting fournew par allel ditches and filling up the pres ent ditches. His new ditches will run the entire length of the farm, making the rows approximately twice as long as they are now and will eliminate all short rows ex cept on one side of one cut. T. C. Whitehurst plans to frrow some food for quail this year. Mr. Whitehurst, on his farm near Chap anoke, has one small field that, is located some distance from his oth er fields. This field contains ap proximately 1 acres and is sur rounded by woods. Due to its size and location Mr. Whitehurst decid ed to use this field to produce food for quad. He plans to set a bor der of hieolor lespedeza plants around the edge of the field and to seed the main part of the field to annual seed mixtures. The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission will furnish the bicolor plants and the annual seed mix ture. Ralph Layden says that com fol lowing pasture in a rotation irives good yields. Mr. Layden's corn on land following pasture produced a much better yield than on adjacent land that had been in row crops the previous year. Last year was unusually dry and the corn on the land where the pasture sod had been turned stood the dry weather much better than his other corn. MOVIE THEATRES SHOWING INCREASE IN ATTENDANCE ' ' "Business men all over the coun try' are just as happy as the opera tors of movie theatres' about the increase in attendance at. 'motion pictures," B. L. Gibbs, manager of the State Theatre, said following his return from Richmond, Va., where he attended a one-day work shop conducted by a major studio. Mr. Gibbs said that business analysts who spoke at the meeting revealed a direct relation between general business and the welfare of the movie theatre in the same com munity. "Increased attendance at the movies," he said," means great er traffic on the .streets in a com munity, thus more people pass stores and window shop, which cre ates additional buying desire. Hol lywood plans for the movie indus try indicate continued increase in the movie business in the future," he concluded.
