income or purchasing power everi
been so high. It is true that he
ia considerably more in debt as
well, but his borrowing in the
main has gone to increase his
assets and over the years he
has established , an - exemplary
record of meeting his obligations.
No precise figure of the bal
ance sheet variety can be giv
en for the: current worth of a
typical American, , but an indica
tion of the extent that it has ad
vanced can be gleaned from
changes over the years in the
value of the principal possessions
owned i-by : a majority of- the
population. Salient ones in this
