Winslow stated that Meck lenburg County Commissioners appropriated over $8,000 towards defeating this bill. A motion from the group suggested that the steering committee approach our County Commissioners lit an effort towards having money ap propriated for promotion and ad vertising this amendment, and to urge them' to take a stand for the amendment' The Town of Hertford, and , the Perquimans County Chamber, Inc., have' al ready gone on record as favoring the "amendment, as have, the farm bureaus of Chowan, Gates, Perquimans,' PasqUotank, Cam den and Currituck counties,' The steering committee met following the general meeting and developed, the organization needed to push this issue, .' J. Emmett Winslow was elected las chairman of this committee, and Rollo White was elected . vice chairman. , A. L. 'Aydlett, Jr., was appointed secretary. The next meeting was set up for Wednesday night, December 18, at 7:30 o'clock in the Muni cipal Building in Hertford. Dr.' Harold "White con ducted the devotional. During the business meeting, Joe Tun nel! reported a balance of $372 in the treasury. . ; The minutes of the last meeting were read by the secretary; Mrs. Royce Vick ers. and approved by the group. A membership of 336 was re ported and Mrs. Lois White stat ed that a few more magazine subscriptions were needed. Ike Perry, chairman of the scholar ship committee, suggested that the PJTA give $150 for a schol arship or grant-in-aid ' to COA for a Perquimans High School graduate next year. The selec tion of the recipient to, be left to the college.. The suggestion was put in the form of a mo tion and passed by the group. , Mr. Perry invited everyone to stop in the library and see a portrait pf Mr. Woodard which was painted by a friend and presented to the faculty. '' Mrs. . .. Npwell .v announced a Family Life Workshop to be held in. Greenville on' 'January 14 and urged interested members to attend.". : v "' Mrs. Fannie Hurdle,' Clinton Eley and Mrs. Mae White were named as a committee to sug gest someone . for ' the Distin guished Service Award to be given by the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Charles , Murray urged everyone to attend the February meeting at which time Dr. Isa Grant will be the speaker. The program for the night was a panel discussion on "Moral De cisions" moderated by Dr. Har- j old White. Those taking part were the Rev. Norman Harris, "Dutch" Overton, Mrs. John N. Winslow, and Miss Susan Cox.
