Quali fications for leadership, and try to recognize tne necessity for sharing leadership responsibiii- ities. In studying the chaDtera al lotted to us today, we see that wnue troa was exercising his lovereian power in workina for his people in their deliverance, he was also working with his people to make them a strong nation. His concefn for their welfarn manifested' itself in two ways: (1) Even while tnev were en slaved of the Egyptians, still a little of the Egyptian oroaress and culture had rubbed off on them. They had certainly learn ed a great deal from the social, I governmental, business and cul tural life of their taskmasters. f Forced1 to ; hold tight together under oppression, they had found a spirit of unity as a people. And, on the purely spir itual level, they could not help but be conscious of the strength cf the God they worshiped in comparison with the ineffectu- ality ' of the gods the Egyptians worshiped. And (2) God chose strong, wise men to lead them to the Promised Land, disciplin ing those chosen by means of trial and hardship strengthen ing their spirit much as steel is hardened' in the crucible toy the 'ordeal of fire. It was for this reason that they suffered the panes of hun ger on their journey. Thev. pri marily a nomadic people, had grown accustomed to the more 'I'tfined food of their Egyptian masters. They had lost their na tural resourcefulness when it came to wresting sustenance .from a hard and barren land. Being human, they were cast in to despair by the hardships thev were called upon to endure, hut Litheir spirits and their wills tem pered apace, and ;they gradually eoapted to .their new wav of life. And while they were adjusting, tliy, in turn,, served God's Dur- pose by taxing Moses' . patience, tact, good judgment and unsel fish spirit. fBut.i through it all. God did not forsake Moses-nor' his people. iney were directed bv God. and their needs were supplied. They were led by the pillar of cloud and fire. They were given manna and quail for their food. I hey were led to victory in their clashes with wanderinp. .hostile tribes. God showed .his concern for Moses in another wav. ton. Moses was spending a great deal 01 time acting as judge for his people. Jeth.ro, his father-in-law, became concerned for the health of. his son-in-law, . and - counseled Moses to choose men wits wis dom and ability to lead, and to ould delegate -some nf the r. nnnnihilitv v IkW A L "."j w. cfuu atua imself ,for fhe greater tasks I; nead. To this advice Moses ustened and gradually Out Of 'haos and '; confusion ' order be gan to appear as the children of Israel worked out their destinv tinder God's guidance. Moses demonstrated his Qual ity of leadership in his willing ness to listen to the counsel of ethro; he was also willing to I delegate responsibility to others, Swhich was another mark of greatness. Today, we are as much in need of great leaders as Wern 'the children of Isreal.
