(XJPI) An earthly space probe sent to a planet such as Mars could contain within it "enough bi ological organisms to contami nate an entire world," accord ing to scientists of General Electric'8 Missile and Space Division. Because of this, space craft designed to land on plan ets will need to be sterilized before launching. However, this sterilization process poses a se rious problem to long life re liability of spacecraft. After assembly, the space craft can cause different parts of the craft to expand unequal ly, and may also have bad ef fects on delicate components, such as transistors. Scientists at General Elec tric's Space Technology Center here recently demonstrated that a "clean" spacecraft can be built and successfully steril ized by dry heat if the space craft equipment has been prop erly designed. Thus, when the nation's Voyager spacecraft lands on Mars Weekend Guest Mrs, Mary E. Chesson of Eliz abeth City spent the weekend here with Mrs. W. T. Smith. E.
