Hundreds of v Perquimans
County farmers and their de
pendents have retired with
montly Social Security checks
In the 12 years that farmers have
been paying social security taxes
on their farm Income.
The Social Security Office
urges local farmers to file
prompt and accurate Income and
earnings reports for 1967 and
points out that failure to do so
may result ' in reduced social
security payments or complete
loss of benefits.
Now is a good time for farmers
to examine their records to see
what to report on federal Income
returns for 1967.
A special part of the law
allows small farmers to acquire
social security credits. It works
like this:
If a farmer's gross income
from his farm is between $600
and S240n. ha ran fttriira Mo no

for social security as 23 of the
gross. For example, if gross is
$600, he can figure net for social
security as 23 of $600 or $400.
Information about social
security tax reporting may be
obtained from the internal
Revenue Office.

much a farm family may re
