MEMORY SELECTION: "I will make of thee a great na tion, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing," (Genesis 122). LESSON TEXT: Genesis l2tl-9 I7jl-21i 18UJ-14: 2lil-B: 22I1B-19. .In our lesson today, we will attempt to demonstrate the importance of God's directions In the lives of men. end specifically, as an example the life of Abraham, and the sureness and validity of His promises. In preparation for the coming of the Redeemer of man kind, God chooses a people. The Israelites were the chosen racej and, although they did not realise it at the time, they . were to be purely representative of God's concern for. man..- kind, ;-.: i-;f:-, - ,LII Abram (later to be known as Abraham) warthrvhosar leader of his people, and through him, God was to make known His promises end His expectations of them as a race, God had assured Abraham that he would be the found er of a great nation, and would receive Divine blessing on all that he undertook, In return (or implicit obedience. As Biblical history unfolds itself, we are to see that all . God's promises were to be fulf llledmalthough not without severe testing on Abraham's part. The demands on Abraham were rigid . M they consisted of a complete break with many things he held dear) he was to separate himself from those he held most dear (other than those who were to embark on his journsy with hlm)j hs was to venture forth, entirely upon faith, and Journey to a land which God would eventually reveal to him; and -- the su preme testing he would be asked by God to destroy his beloved child, Isaac, ( a child of his old agetae supreme test, as any parent will verify. That Abraham, although loath to do so, wu willing to comply, Is the greatest mea sure of the man. That be wu prevented from making the supreme sacrifice is Indicative of God's everlasting mer eymslthough He, Himself, through Christ, mads that sacri fice Himselfl Such is the awespme malestyoj Ood, and the Infinite ma jesty of whloh human nature Is aipablel In a lime when the world was going through a period of tor getting Ood, and evil wu rampant,Ood called upon a man of faith to establish a nation, His promises to Abraham vent beyond his (Abraham's) time, and hit ohlldren's tlmforr salvation and judgment ire not bounded by time or clrcum tneew, they held u true todays ai they did In the times of Israel's ordeals, The promisee enoompui aU mankind, throughout the iseg known to mini And. u all promiiM. they must be held Inviolate, tor : ones they ire violated, then both nartiu suffer, Butmiwh Is the mture of Ood, He hu never reneged on His given WordMnot onoe, ilthough mm hu often forgetten his dut ies and oblltattonsl II man were in the place of the Almighty, he would have thrown up hie hands end walked awy In dis gust many times! God's holy covenant with mankind, however, made through the precious person of Christ - the forgiveness of sins and the opportunity for life everlasting will never be set aside, for Ood is aver falthfuL-not Just to one people, but ' to all peoples.
