Perquimans County Board Of Elections Washington Report By Walter Jones Last wssk Congress continu ed Its summer recess. During the interval I had the pleasure of delivering a commencement ad dress to the Beaufort County Technical hstltute. In preparation for the speech, I was astounded at the phenomen al growth of Me community col lsget and technical institutuss in (he state of North Carolina, From the creation of the first technical institute in the late '80s I find that we have now 80 schools of this type. The ever increasing enrollment is most impressive! for the school yeai 1962-63, an enrollment of about 28100. The last definite we have for the year 1967-68 was 189,000 students with a projected enroll ment for 1968-69 of 225,00. I chose for the subject of my address "Campus Unrest," for I think many of our North Caro lina citizens are concerned about the events of recent months which disrupted the orderly processes of some of our Institutions of higher learning. The speech attempted to con vey the fact that campus unrest Is not solely the product of the present young generation but has existed In the past. It has been written: 'Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority, disre spect for older people. Children nowadays are tyrants. They con tradict their parents, gobble their food and tyrannize their teach ers." Certainly, this has a ring of modern times, yet this quote where interest and staff permit. The fees at the Art Center will be 18,00 each quarter for the 3 hour classes and S6.00 each quarter for the 2 hour classes. Classes will meet 11 weeks each quarter. They restored order to the uni versities as well as to the com munlty. The so-called "Russian Stu dent Movement" generally, cov ers a half century period-1856, just after the Crimean War, to 1905, The Russian Student Move ment of that day, similar to the violence of today, consisted of many non-students or ex-student leaders and produced many of the most vicious ex -student revolutionary criminals of all times.
