Mrs. Becky Dale White is a
candidate for the office of
Treasurer of Perquimans
County.
Becky has served nine years as
treasurer for Perquimans High
School, Hertford Grammar
School and Perquimans County
Central Grammar School.
In interviewing Mrs. White she
said, "My love is for the
bookkeeping process and
training and experience I have
acquired in keeping the school
books would qualify me for the
position County Treasurer.
She is the daughter of Mrs.
Walter J. Dale and the late Mr.
Dale; she has two children
Richard 18, a student of the Ag.
Institute, North Carolina State
y university; Mlllcent, 16 a
J Sophomore at Perauimans Hlah
School. They live with Mrs.
White's mother at Rt. l,
Belvidere. She is a member of
the United Methodist Church, is

Is Honored
In Publication

Mrs. Wesley E. Nelson,
manager of the Rose's Store was
honored in the Company's
monthly publication "Com -
munique." April issue for having
served 30 years with Rose's
Store
Mrs. Nelson has been manager
of the Hertford Store for twenty
two years, having come here in
February of 1948.
Prior to her arriving the
manager the local store, she was
manager at the Plymouth Rose
Store for five years, and was a
saleslady in Wllliamston for
three years where she began her
career with the Rose Stores.
She is married to Wesley E.
Nelson and the couple has two
children, a son Wallace Nelson
and a daughter Kathreen. The
Nelson family resides on Church
Street here.
Arts Council
To Meet
The Perquimans County Arts
Council will hold its regular
monthly meeting on Tuesday,
Mays, at 2:00 pjn. at the Winfall
Grammar School.
Plans will be made for the
Second Bi-Annual Arts and
Crafts Show to be held on June
12th and 13th. 1

To Be Held May 6
, Registration for all beginning
first grade students in
Perquimans County will be held
Wednesday, May 6, at 1:30 PM.
All preschoolers on the Hertford
tide of the Perquimans River
will register at Hertford
Grammer School. All o" those on
the Winfall side of the river will
register at Perquimans Central
Grammar School. All parents
are also aked to bring the child's
birth certificate. It is also the
responsibility of the parent to see
that all immunization shots have
been given to the child.
Art Inhibit
To Be Shown
The Perquimans County Arts
Council has announced an
sxhibit of children's art to be
mown at the Perquimans County
Library beginning May 8th to last
through May 15.
The exhibition consists of 28
pictures depicting actual
mechanical artistic development
in the child from age two through
thirteen.
This showing will be of great
interest not only to students but to
parents and teachers who follow
closely the efforts of our society's
young to achieve the maturity
needed for a full and interesting
life.
The exhibit will be available
during regular hours of the
Library, and is part of the
educational services provided by
East Carolina University.
Rites Held For
Wallace Bright
A funeral service for George
Wallace Bright, 64, of Route 2,
who died Tuesday in the Chowan
Hospital following a seven
months illness, was held
Thursday at 2:00 in the Chapel of
the Swndell Funeral Home by the
Rev. W.R. Pinner, pastor of the
Oak Grbve United Methodist
Church.
"You're Not Alone" was sung
by Maurice Cridlin, ac
companied by Mrs. Chester
Winslow, organist.
The casket pall was made of
red roses, white chrysan
themums, white carnations,
baby's breath and fern.
Pallbearers were Welly White,
Willard Simpson. L.E. Pierce,
Johnie Gregory, Sr., William
Ferrell and Gary Hobbs.
Burial was in Old Hollywood
Cemetery in Elizabeth City.
Cancer Clinic
Set May 1st
The Northeastern Cancer
Clinic will be held on Friday
afternoon May 1st, with
registration beginning at 12:30
p.m. A chest x-ray will be given
to anyone wishing it along with,
the examination of the five areas
of the body where cancer is most
easily found and cured. Only 30
people can be seen at the Center
each month, due to limited
facilities, so it is suggested that
anyone who wishes to be assured
of an appointment should write
or call die Cancer Center, Health
Dept. Elizabeth City, N. C. for a
priority. Examinees are asked to
bring a robe or housecoat with
them.

Blood Collection
Falls Short
Only 53 pints of blood were
collected at the visit of the
Bloodmobile in Hertford Mon
day. Goal for the day was 88
pints. Mrs. Nathan Sawyer, Red
Cross Blood Chairman, reported
that 69 people offered a pint of
their blood, but six were rejected
for medical reasons. Although
expressing disappointment in the
response to this appeal for blood,
she stated that she and other
officials of the Perquimans Co.
Chapter of the American Red
Cross are deeply grateful for the
people who did respond.

ADD SOIL TO "NATIONAL1 TREE" - Tar Heel 4-H members
added a bit of North Carolina soil to a "national tree" at
National 4-H Conference, April 20, In Washington, D. C. The
tree, which lymbollies the cooperation of all states In expanding
the National 4-H Center, was officially dedicated during ground
breaking ceremonies for the enlarged Center. The tree, a
Bradford Pear, Is temporarily planted In a large tub and will be
permanently replanted at the entrance to the new building as

Methodist Church
Revival services will be held at
Epworth United Methodist
Church, Winfall, April 26 through
May 3, beginning each evening at
8:00 p.m.
The speaker will be Evangelist
Robert J. Rudd of Henderson, N.
C. Rev. Rudd is an approved
Methodist Conference evangelist
of the N. C. Annual Conference.
He has held over 325 revivals in
the United States and has
traveled in eleven foreign
countries in the interest of
Missions and evangelism.
The Rev. Rudd is a graduate of
Asbury College and of Asbury
Theological Seminary of
Wilmore, Kentucky. He uses
magical tricks to illustrate
spiritual truths to children.
The public is cordially invited

Science Annual
Meet Scheduled
The North Carolina Academy
of Science will hold its annual
meeting at North Carolina State
University in Raleigh May 1-2,
Academy Secretary Joseph G.
Boyette announced today.
The Academy is made up of
scientists and those persons
interested in science promotion
of science. It encourages and
supports scientific research and
carries on activities enriching
science education in North
Carolina. The annual meeting
program includes presentation
of student research reports,
senior scientist research reports,
business meetings, general in
formation sessions and a
banquet at which outstanding
scientists are presented awards.
Boyette is a member of the
faculty in the Department of
Biology at East Carolina
University.

old and a Junior at Perq. High
School. She is 5 feet 7 in. tall with
brown hair and brown eyes. Her
hobbies are water sports,
basketball and creative writing.

MRS. BESSIE JORDAN
HERTFORD - Mrs. Bessie
Everett Jordan, 76, of Route 3,
Idled Wednesday at 4:55 a.m. in
Pitt Memorial Hospital at
Greenville following illness of
four months.
A native of Perquimans
County, she was the daughter of
the late John William and Mrs,
Elizabeth Stokes Everett and
widow of George A. Jordan. She
was a member of Woodland
Methodist Church.
Surviving are one son, George
Ashby Jordan of Greenville; two
sisters, Mrs. Hilda Overton of
Route 3 and Mrs. Ellie Dun
navant of Norfolk; two brothers,
Cecil Everett of Route 3 and
Charlie Everett of Chesapeake,
Va. and two grandchildren.
The family will be at the home
of her sister, Mr. Hilda Overton,
Route 3.
The body was removed to
Swindell Funeral Home pending
completion of arrangements.

be advertised in May.
