The North Carolina 4-H office has announced a new award to be presented to the state winner of die 4-H Agricultural Award, it has been established by James A. Graham, Commissioner. In announcing the award, T. C. Blalock, Director of North Carolina 4-H work, stated that a large trophy will go to the in dividual selected by the state Judging committee as the winner of the 4-H Agricultural Project. , "We appreciate the interest and support Commissioner Graham gives to Club 4-H work ill North Carolina and sincerely thank him for this award," Blalock said. I The large trophy will be engraved with each winner's name and retained by him during the year. He will also be given a smaller replica of the trophy to keep. '. Blalock stated that the award will be presented annually at the Recognition Banquet during the North Carolina 4-H Club Congress. : Helen Gartner ! Homemakers Mrs. M. J. uregory was hostess Thursday night, April 16, to the Helen Gaither Homemakers Club. ; Mrs. Donald Madre, the president, presided. "Home On The Range," was sung. Mrs. Gregory gave the devotional, reading verses from different chapters, and gave comments, closing with prayer. Mrs. Ila Grey White gave the demonstration on "Fabrics, Finishes and Fibers". She showed samples of different kinds of material. This was a very interesting demonstration and all enjoyed it. i Several announcements were made by the President. Cake decorating to be given for eight weeks. Music workshop April 24th. Special interest meeting April 27. County Council April 17th. Mrs. Madre comments on the District Meeting at Chowan College, April 15, and told those that didn't go what they missed. BEACH Mrs. Dora Roberson spent the weekend at Virginia Beach with Mr. and Mrs. Julian Roberson. RETURN FROM RAEIGH Mr., and Mrs. John Harrison knd son Troy spent Saturday in Raleigh where Mrs. Harrison attended a License workshop. Frances White Is FHA'er Of Month Margaret Mansfield, president of the Perquimans Count Future Homemakers of America Chapter presided at the April meeting of the group on April 17 in the auditorium of the Perquimans High School. The devotion was given by Pam Sutton and Sandra Smith. Following the roll call and the minutes read by Secretary Pat Lane, Gail Eure gave a descriptive report on the FHA rally in Raleigh. The theme for the rally was "Youth in Action". Plans are being made by the project committee to plant red and white petunias in the sign in front of the school, according to Linda Harrell. This month the girl receiving the honor of FHA'er of the month is Frances White. She was chosen for her willingness to work with the club. Frances worked hard on the Mother- Daughter banquet and at making name tags for the FHA rally. All the members go out in congratulating Frances for this acknowledgment. The meeting reached a climax with the program presented by Dr. Robert L. Poston, a physician in Elizabeth City. All the girls and their mothers were invited to see the film strip made by the American Cancer Society. Mrs. Carol Harrell and Mrs. Ilia Gray White assisted Dr. Poston in showing the film strip. Following an interesting and inormative talk about cancer, the girls were given a question and answer period. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Cantelmo, Sr., announce the engagement of their daughter Nancy Lee, and Stephen Newby Hendley, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Hendley, Jr. all of Columbia, S.C. The bride-elect was graduated from Lower Richland High School and will receive her degree in pre-school education from the University of South Carolina June 6, 1970. Lamb visited her daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Lipscomb, Jr. in Rich- pond, Va., recently. Mrs. Lamb was accompanied home by her daughter Mrs. Lipscomb who spent the day. ATTEND MUSIC FEDERATION Mrs. C. J. Andrews and Mrs. R. M. Riddick attended the North Carolina Federation of Music Clubs Convention at the Blockade Runner Hotel in Wrightsville Beach last week. Eager Beaver 4-H Meeting The Eager Beaver 4-H Club met April 7 at the home of Mrs. Marvin Davenport. The meeting was called to order by the president Diane Eure. Pledges were lead by Sherie Williams, Debbie Lane gave the devotional after which she lead the club in the National 4-H Club Pledge song. The secretary Gail Eure read the minutes of the last meeting and called the roll with all members present. Debbie Harrell treasurer, reported a total of $45.04 on hand. Under new business the club talked about the talent show and handing in the health records, and had two demonstrations, the first was given by Gail Eure on refinishing furniture. The second demonstration was on the simple tests of Fabrics Makeup, and was given by Mrs. Davenport. The meeting was closed with the Motto, and refreshments were served to all. Robert King, director of ad mission, has released a partial listing of students who have been accepted for admission to Campbell College in the fall term beginning September 8. Included from the Hertford area are these two students of Perquimans High School: Broughton Thomas Dail, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Broughton T. Dail, Sr.; and Nancy Carta Elliott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Elliott of 326 Grubb Street, who will study elementary education at Campbell. The bridegroom-elect was graduated from A.C. Flora High School and received a B.A. degree in accounting from the University of South Carolina. He is accounting coordinator for Farmbest Dairies. He is the grandsom of Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Hendley of Statesville, N.C. and Mrs. Guy Newby of Hertford, N.C. and the late Mr. Newby. The wedding is planned for June 13, 1970, at 2:30 p.m. in St. Joseph's Caholic Church in Columbia. S.C. Carson of Federick, Maryland announce the engagement of their daughter, Peggy Louise Lane to Paul Harrison Baker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Neal Wolfe of Silver Springs, Maryland. Miss Lane is also the daughter of the late Herbert P. Lane of Hertford, and Baker is also the son of the late Ralph Baker of Oakland, Md. No wedding date has been announced. General Session Of W.S.C.S. A general session of the Hertford W.S.C.S. will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the United Methodist Church at 8 p.m. All members are requested to be present. This meeting will be preceded by an executive session at 7:15 p.m. May 5, at 9:45, the Minnie Wilson Circle will meet with Mrs. Frances Monds.
