Mrs. WUliam E.White and children Bay Branch Club Holds Meeting . Miss Cynthia Norman was a guest at the Bay Branch Homemakers Club meeting at the Community Building recently. Miss Norman, a 4-H'er, gave a demonstration on milk, which was very enjoyable. The president, Mrs. Isetta Hollo well, presided and had charge of devotion. Mrs. Reba Hurdle, Food and Nutrition Leader, passed out literature on milk and presented Miss Norman. Mrs. M. B. Taylor, Home Economics Agent, was also present and gave the usual helpful information. The housing situation shows many improvements In the last tea years, a tremendous manner of houses have been built and remodeled. Still, housing conditions are poor. There are many dilapidated and sub-standard houses. When a new home is built families leave sub-standard homes for someone else to oc cupy or they are left vacant. Low income families make up the majority of families who live in bub-standard houses. A house Imust be sound and have indoor plumbing fixtures to be a standard house. According to the 1960 Census, 48 of all housing units in the county did not have inside toilets. 33 of all units did not have piped water. 41of all units ire not sound. S.6 of all units .did have a central heating System. 33.4 of families had wood heating fuel. w.s oi au homes were dilapidated. 22 of the houses were deteriorating. Since 1960 statistics have changed. To get a picture of the housing situation today, one can look around the many dilapidated buildings and poor housing which is a direct con trast to the many new and beautiful buildings in Perquimans County. In the next ten years, with the resources available today, every family can have an opportunity to live in an adquate home. The housing situation shows many improvements, in the last ten years.
