Canning, Freezing Workshop Slated For July 23 A quality canning and freezing workshop is scheduled for Thursday, July 23, at the Perquimans County Office Building. If you need any assistance with your canning or freezing of fruits and vegetables please attend this meeting today with Mrs. M. B. , Taylor, Home Economics Ex tension Agent. Mrs. Taylor states that she has a supply of canning, freezing, preserving, Jelly making and pickling bulletins. You may have one by calling 426-7697 or drop in at your County Extension Agent. Applicants must have been members of the Bar for at least 7 years and must have acquired at least 2 years of experience either in the field of administrative law lor in the preparation ana presentation of cases at trial in courts of record. Experience in routine misdemeanor cases. probate, domestic relations, minor tort matters, and cases of similar nature will not be accepted as meeting the quality qf experience required. Prior to revision of the Hearing Examiner Announcement (No. 1318), 2 years of administrative law experience was mandatory. A Pattern Drafting and Alternation Course will be conducted by the Adult Division at College of The Albemarle, beginning Monday August 3. meeting daily from 9 a.m. to 12 Noon, until August 13. Classes will be held in Room 233 at the College. The course is planned for the person with intermediate or advanced sewing skills, and is designed to acquaint the student with the methods of measuring and alternation necessary to achieve a custom fit. Students will draft a pattern from' their measurements, make a muslin in basic design, and learn how to apply adjustments to com mercial patterns. Ext. 251. (Perquimans County ASCS Mevs . sst oa Dives, a n . WHEAT REFERENDUM DATES FOR 1171 CROP Secretary of Agriculture, Clifford M. Hardin, has proclaimed July 27-31 as the dates for a mail referendum on 1971 crop wheat marketing quotas. All persons who have a legal interest in a wheat allot ment will be eligible to vote in the referendum. Eligible voters failing to receive a ballot mat obtain one from this office, Notices of allotments on each farm will be mailed prior to the referendum. By law, in the absence of new legislation, the 1971 wheat crop comes under the provisions of the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1938. as amended.' This act requires that a marketing quota referendum applicable to the 1971 crop be conducted on or before August 1. 1970. The Agricultural Act of 1965, as amended, extends its voluntary wheat program through the 1970-j crop year, and specifically suspended marketing quotas fori wheat producers only for the duration of the act. Marketing quotas, to be put in effect, must be approved by two- thirds or more of those voting in the referendum. If quotas are BDoroved, producers will be limited , to their allotment acreage beyond which they cannot harvest without a marketing quota penalty. Any excess acreage proauciion would be subject to penalty unless it is sorted under bond. If they remain within their allot ment and divert the required acresage. they'll be eligible for price support loans and domestic wheat marketing certificate navments. If the referendum fails to carry, producers staying withinlheir 1971 allotments and complying with other terms and conditions - which may be prescribed by the Secretary, would be eligible for support at 50 per cent of parity. ; : More information concerning the wheat referendum will be mailed at a later date. LOAN RATES The following loan rates have been announced for Perquimans County: Oats - $.74 per bushel wneat - si .31 per ousnei Corn - $1.22 per bushel Soybeans $2.28 per bushel The Wildlife Resources Commission has announced dates and bag limits for doves, marsh hens, woodcock, and Wilson's snipe" for the coming seasons. The Commission was given the usual framework of dates from which to select the seasons on these species, but the bag limits were set by the U. S. Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife. First shooting gets under way September 1 when the season on marsh hens opens one-half hour before sunrise. These come in for a 70-day season ending November 9 at sunset . Bag limits are is daily and 30 in possession for clapper and king rails, singly or in combination: 25 daily and 25 in possession for sora and Virginia rails. : singly: or collectively: and 15 daily and 30 in possession for gallinules. Shooting hours for marsh hens are one-half hour before sunrise to sunset. Next in line is the dove season set to open at noon on September 2 with the first segment of a split season to close October 10, and the second season, to run from December 16 to January 15. Again there will be a daily bag of 18 birds with 36 allowed in possession. Shooting hours are from noon to sunset. HC 4-H Congress Set Delegates from the state's 100 counties will gather in Raleigh .July 27-30 for the 1970 North Carolina 4-H Congress. Some. 1,400 Tar Heel 4-H members, their adult leaders and extension agents are ex--pec ted on the North Carolina State University campus. The event climaxes another year of project work for the delegates. Lyman B. Dixon, acting state 4-H leader, said the 4-H'ers will participate in a tight schedule of classes, contests, recreation, fellowship, tours and even politicking. Among the featured speakers, according to Dixon, will be Norman Sloan, head basketball coach at N.C. State, and Karl Kiilsholm, an immigrant who lives In Algona, Iowa. Sloan will speak Tuesday morning - on "Merits and Challenges of Athletics." Kiilsholm will speak Thursday morning on "What Freedom Means to Me." On Wednesday morning the delegates will attend one of several special interest classes. Among the topics to be discussed are how communists operate in the U.S., air and water pollution, drugs and car safety. Among other highlights of the week are the Honor Club tapping ceremony. Monday night, the Health Pageant Tuesday night. the Dress Revue Wednesday night, and the Parade of Talent Thursday night. Some 30 contests, starting Monday afternoon with judging in livestock and horticultural crops, will be held throughout the week.
