A lot can happen in 50 years. The rules can change Inflation can wipe out the dollar. The "establishment," which helps to pay the taxes that keep the welfare state going, might succumb to the attacks of its adversaries and so on Whatever happens, the 18- year-olds who are starting to vote now are destined to bear a substantial portion of the oobJ. Postal Blues There are irrawina indications! Into Congress erred in cutting the Post Office Department free of the government making it a private corporation. Less than two months after becoming a private business, the Postal Service is in trouble. Financially, the Service is about to ask Congress for money. It is about to curb some of ' Congress' free mailing privileges. It has embittered Congressmen by telling Postal employes, including post masters, that they cannot an swer Congressmen; that is to be done only by1 a special office. It wants to raise rates again. An investigation has begun the award of a lush $3 million contract to the Westinghouse Corporation for a job classification project; House subcommittee has been told Westinghouse isn't suited to such as task and that firms specializing in such work made bids as low as $1.9 million. And it's alleged a Postal Service official leaked the word the decision had been made to give the contract to Westinghouse some time ago. Coupled with the recent strike threat, this is sour news. And one of the bills introduced recent days to return the Postal Service to the government as one of its departments may well be enacted eventually.
