Ownley, Sr. was guest of honor at a birthday dinner, given at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C.A. Butt, Route 3, Hertford. IN WASHINGTON Mr. and Mrs. Jack Burbage spent a few days this week in Washington and attended the funeral of Mrs. Burbage's sister, Mis. Harry Hodges, Sr., who died in a nursing home on Sunday. GUEST Mrs. Thelma Peele of Win chester, Va. spent the week-end 4-H dub Meets The Perquimans County Senior 4-H Club held it's monthly meeting Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. . at the Agriculture Building. Gail Eure called the meeting to order and all stood to repeat the pledges led by Barry Lane. Rhonda Lane gave the devotional. The Scripture was taken from Galatians 25: 23-26. All then repeated the Lord's .Prayer. ' Barry Lane then called the roll with eight members present and read the minutes from the last meeting. They were ap proved as read. The treasurer's report was then given. It was decided to have a supper at the river October 2, 1971. Mrs. Sutton said she would take care of the food. Mr. Sutton reminded us that time for the deadline of record books was getting near. The duties for the next meeting are Devotional-Sybil Hobbs and Pledges-Jill Harrell. We then dismissed by repeating the 4-H Motto. Gail Eure, Pres. Barry Lane, Sec. with Mr. and Mrs. Robert White. Joint Meeting Held At Carolinian Hotel A joint meeting of PiChapter and Beta Upsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma was held at the Carolinian Hotel in Nags Head on Saturday, October 2nd., with Pi Chapter the hostess. Presiding for Pi Chapter was Mrs. C. S. Meekins, president, of Manteo, and for Beta Upsilon, Mrs. J.L. Rea, president, of Plymouth. Mrs. W.J, Hollowell, Mrs. L.G. Wilkins and Mrs. Mary McDonald Holmes, all of Edenton; Mrs. John Turner, Mrs. J.H. Bell and Mrs. A.J. James, all of Elizabeth City; Miss Johnnie N. White of Belvidere; and Mrs. M.R. Riddick of Hertford were in itiated into Pi Chapter. Following the initiation each Chapter had a , business meeting. At the conclusion of a lun cheon, a program on "How Are Values Transmitted, Protected or Threatened by the Teaching Arts in Home, Church and School" was presented by Beta. Upsilon Chapter. Members giving the program were: Mrs. L.R. Hassell, Jr. of Roper, Mrs. Myrtle Croom of Camden and Mrs. C.H. Godwin of William ston. The meeting was closed with a brief Memorial led by Mrs. Clarence Bell and Mrs. Bernice Calloway, both of Elizabeth City, for Mrs. W.F. Clinkscales of Elizabeth City, recently deceased. The marriage of ' Deborah Anhe Godfrey and Benny Raye Denton was solemnized Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in New Hope Methodist Church. Rev. Pomeroy Carter of Live Oak, Florida performed the double ring ceremony in a candlelight setting. Wedding music was presented by Ira Lu Byrum, cousin of the bride, of Tyner, N.C. Mrs. King George Byrum, aunt of the bride, was soloist. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Godfrey of Chesapeake, Va. and grand daughter of Mrs. Lucille Trueblood of Durants Neck. The groom was reared in the Advent Christian Home in Live Oak, Florida. Given in marriage by her father the bride wore a gown, fashioned with an empire waistline of satin overlayed with bridal lace. Miss Maria Gaitley, cousin of the bride, of Chesapeake, Va., was maid of honor. She wore a gown of golden satin fashioned with empire waistline and ac cented with a matching velveteen ribbon. She carried a long stem bronze mum with matching ribbon. Bridesmaids were Hazelene Byrum of Tyner, N.C. and Kathy Monds of Virginia Beach, Va. ' cousins of the bride. They wore identical gowns of yellow satin fashioned like the maid of honor Miss Simpson Honored At Luncheon Miss Jackie Simpson, whose marriage will take place Oc tober 30, was honored at a luncheon given at the home of Mrs. Fenton Britt on October 2. Hostesses were Mrs. Britt, Miss Bea Skipsey, and Miss Joyce Gibbs. Those attending in addition the honoree were Mrs. John E. Simpson, mother of the bride elect, Mrs. Claude Simpson, grandmother of the bride-elect, Mrs. Catherine J. Ward,Mrs. Sheiton Bateman, Mrs. Chester Winslow, and Miss Becky Eure. The hostesses presented a gift of china and a white carnation corsage to the honoree. Ml -n and carried a long stem yellow mum with matching ribbon. Master John Paul Trueblood, cousin of the bride, of Durants Neck was ring bearer. Miss Patty Anne Trueblood cousin of the bride, of Durants Neck, and Miss Ami Cullen of Chesapeake served as flower girls. Mr. Kenneth Steinnefer of Live Oak, Florida was best man. Ushers were CD. Beach, Va. was Sub-District UMYF Meets The Chowan-Perquimans Sub district UMYF met for its monthly meeting October 3, 1971 at 5:00 p.m. in the Woodland Methodist Church. The meeting was called to order by the president, Gail Eure. Everyone stood for the praying of the Lord's Prayer. Devotion was given by Kathy Marren. The business was held with the discussion of going to Durham for the Youth Rally on October 30. For the program a Galilean Service was held. The service helped everyone to appreciate the beauty of the outdoors. After the UMYF Benediction, everyone joined in for fellowship singing. Following the singing everyone enjoyed a light snack supper. mistress of ceremony. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Godfrey was attired in a pink double knit dress with matching accessories and a carnation corage. A reception followed at the Durants Neck Community Building. The couple left for a wedding trip to Florida and upon their return will make their home in Tab, Va. After the wedding rehearsel Rev. Romeroy Carter hosted the bridal party and friends to a, banquet supper at the Holiday Lnn, in Elizabeth City, N.C.
