Sr. ' Celebrates 95th Birthday HERTFORD-The family of Mr. Elsberry R. Whedbee. Sr. celebrated his 95th birthday at the cottage of Tom Banks at White Hat, on Sunday. March 5th from 11 to 5 with children. grand children and great grand children joining -in the celebration. It was an occasion long looked forward to by his 81 descen dants. .:ftf- y- Sixty were present to enjoy the fellowship and also the delicious oyster dinner planned and furnished by the honoree. and served by his sons-in-law. After each one had eaten all he could of oysters, chicken, cole slaw, french fries, cake and ice cream. Happy Birthday was sung and then ,Mr. Whedbee graciously opened . and acknowledged his many gifts. Following this. Mr. Whedbee entertained his family with the singing of songs and teUing of stories, which were recorded on tape for their pleasure and reminiscing in the years to come,; ' : Mr. Elsberry Riddick Whedbee. a life long resident of Perquimans County, was born March 6th. 1877. He was married the 21st day of December. 1904 to Annie Ola Bogue. He lived most of his life and raised his family of 11 children. 6 girls and 5 boys in the Woodville Community of Perquimans County. He had the misfortune of loosing his wife in the year 1957. after being married 53 years. His children are: Elizabeth W. Hollowell. husband. J.F. Hollowell Sr.: Bill Whedbee wife Madelene -Harrell Whedbee; Carlton Whedbee. wife (deceased) Alice StaUings Whedbee; Luther Whedbee. wife Ruby Cramer Whedbee; Elsberry Riddick Whedbee, Jr., wife. Whedbee farmed for 43 years after marrying and then worked out at public work for 7 years before retiring in 1954. Since then he has made his home with his children. He is still quite active and in good health.
