meeting place in the Courthouse
in Hertford, Perquimans

Present Lester H. Simpson,
chairman presiding with
commissioners, Riley S. Monds,
Jr., Thomas D. Nixon, Ellis
Winslow, and Guy H. Webb.
All commissioners were
present.

On motion duly made,
seconded and passed, the
Perquimans County Board of
Commissioners, endorsed the
Governor's Clean Sweep
program for May 1972.
On motion duly made,
seconded and passed, the Board
adopted a joing resolution
supporting application for
designation as lead regional
organization. (Copy filed with
minutes.)
On motion duly made,
seconded and passed, the Board
approved request to increase
the District Health Board by
two members who will come
from the minority group.

Mrs. Mary D. Spry Dies
Mrs. Mary Dale Spry, 76, of
Route 1, Hertford, died
Saturday morning in the
Albemarle Hospital following a
long illness. A native of Chowan
County, she was a daughter of
the late James H. and Mrs.
Theodora Simpson Dale and
widow of Roy Louis Spry.
She was a member of the
Edenton Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters,
Mrs. Mary Dale Lane of Route
1, Hertford and Mrs. Jane
Weikel of Elizabeth City; a
brother, Roland Dale of
Whaleyville, Va.; one sister,
Mrs. Cleo Vaughan of Ports
mouth, Va. ; and six grand
children. Funeral services were held
Monday at 11:00 in Beaver Hill
Cemetery in Edenton by the
Rev. Robert Gray, pastor of the
Edenton Baptist Church and the
Rev. Chester Andrews, pastor
of the First United Methodist
Church in Hertford.
The casket pall was made of
white chrysanthemums, pink
carnations, baby's breath and
fern.
Pallbearers were Dr. Steve
Pugh, Austin Hurlbert, Ted
White, Thomas White, Rudolph
Hurlbert, and George Alma
By rum.
Swindell Funeral Home was
in charge of arrangements.
Wiley F. Eason
Wiley Fletcher Eason, 52, of
Gaston Drive, died Saturday
night at 8:20 in the Chowan
Hospital following a day's
illness.
A native of Macclesfield,
N.C, he had lived in Hertford
for 2V2 years. He was the son of
Mrs. Lillian Webb Eason of
Macclesfield and the late
Gaston Eason.
A Navy Veteran of World War
2, he was a superintendent for
the Dickerson Construction
Company. He was a member of
the New Bridge Baptist Church
in Highland Springs, Va.
Surviving besides his mother
are his wife, Mrs. Margaret Lee
Smith Eason; a daughter, Mrs,
Elizabeth Harrell of Richmond;
two brothers, Robert Eason of
Wilmington and Brooks Eason
of Macclesfield; two sisters,
Mrs. Bea Smith of Tarboro and
Mrs. Grey Kirkland of Ports
mouth, Va.
' Funeral services were held
Monday at 12:00 in the Chapel of
the Swindell Funeral Home by
the Rev. Norman Harris, pastor
of the Hertford Baptist Church.
"The Old Rugged Cross" was
played during the service by
Mrs. Preston Morgan, organist.
The casket pall was made of
red roses and fern.
Pallbearers were Bud Norris,
Terry Carter, Cecil Edward
Winslow, Bill Skinner, Charlie
Fowler and Carson Spivey, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were
Willie Mills, Johnny Brantley,
Robert Barnhill, Jr., E.J.
Poindexter, Harry Sowder,
W.M. Smith, C.B. Durham, and
W.H. Coleman.
Burial followed at 5:00 in the
Washington Memorial Park
Cemetery in Sandston, Virginia.
