Chappel, 92, died Thursday night at 6:20 in the Chowan Hospital following a long illness. A native of Perquimans County, she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Lucy C. Ward, Rt. lr Tyner for the past six years. She was the daughter of the late Caleb and Mrs. Lucinda Parks Chappell and the widow of Elihu Jesse Chappell. She was a member of the Piney , Woods Friends Meeting. Besides Mrs. Ward, she is survived by two step-daughters, Mrs. Rachael Winslow and Mrs. J.T. Winslow of Belvidere; three step-sons, Jesse Thomas Chappell of Belvidere, Godfrey Chappell of Hobbsville and Caracus Chappell of Gatesville; S grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Funeral services were held Saturday at 3:00 in the Piney Woods Friends Meeting by the Rev. Larry McEntire, the Rev. Harold Leake and the Rev. Eula Harrell. Burial was in the Family Cemetery near Belvidere. "Sweet Hour of Prayer" was sung by the choir of Piney Woods Friends Meeting. "How I Trust Him" was sung by the Rev. McEntire and "Blessed Assurance was sung by Mrs. ' Hazel Byrum, Mrs. Miriam Bvrum and Mrs. Louise Dickerson. Pianist was Mrs Judy Winslow. The casket pall was made of pink roses, white chrysan themums and fern. Students Earn Honois AtNcsu N.C.S.U. More than one of every four undergraduate students at North Carolina State University earned Dean's List honors during the spring semester. Chancellor John T. Caldwell announced a record total of 3,084 men and women mastered studies in the sciences, technologies, humanities and arts to achieve academic ex cellence. In contrast. 362 students were suspended during the spring semester due to academic difficulties - a ratio of more than eight honor students for every suspension. To win Dean s List recognition, NCSU students must attain academic averages of 3.0 or better out of a possible 4.0. Food Assistance There were 903 low-income Perquimans County people on the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Donated Foods program in March as compared to 928 the previous month, Russell H. James, Southeast regional administrator of USDA's Food and Nutrition Service, reports. Taking the state as a whole, James noted, there was an increase of 3,452 in the number of people on the food programs. The number receiving food stamps was up by 8,387 while the food distribution's total dropped by 4,935 to give an overall increase. In the food stamp program, operating in 53 North Carolina counties in March, 189,352 people were issued $4.7 million in food coupons. Of this amount, $3.2 million was in free or bonus stamps. This was about $17 per person in free stamps, he ad ded. This . includes ; corn, peanuts, cotton, ; ; grain sorghums, oats, wneai, soybeans, rye and barley. This year the acreage and location of the set-aside acreage must De designated on a photocopy. Producers can begin certifying any time after all crops except soybeans nave been planted which he intends to plant. Producers participating in the 1972 . wheat program must certify their nlanted acreaee for harvest by June 20, 1972. DISPOSITION OF SMALL GRAIN ON SET-ASIDE ACREAGE ; The final date for disposition of small grain, rye, oats, wheat, and barley is June 20, 1972. If vou have anv of the above erain that is to be left standing for reseeding on set-aside acreage, vou must file a written ap plication with the County Office before June 20, 1972. SET-ASIDE ACREAGE Set-aside acreage is to be cropland that would normally be planted to the crop being set aside in the absence of a program. The set-aside acreage must be cropland of average productivity for the crop being set aside. There will be a payment reduction for designating set-aside acreage below average productivity. Set-aside acreage is not to be grazed between May 1 and October 1. No crop can be harvested from set-aside acreage at any time. Farm operators are reminded that they will be required to designate their set-aside acreage on a photocopy of their farm at the County ASCS Office at the time they file their set aside certification report.
