Stanford White September 5, 1972 Dear Friend: In a few days, the First District House Committee will meet to. choose the nominee for Representative of the First District who will fill the seat left vacant by Mr. W. T. Culpepper, who chose not to run . -, . , In. the Primary of last May, W. Stanford White sought to win this seat. He traveled throughout the District and met thousands of people. On May 6, 1972, the people spoke at the Ballot Box and made their choice. The results are as follows : Vernon James, Pasquotank 6,459 W. T. Culpepper, Pasquotank 6,298 W. Stanford White, Dare 5,950 John A. Mitchner, Chowan 5,899 By a narrow margin, W. Stanford White lost the right to call for a run-off . He placed third in the peoples choice for two Repre sentatives for the First District. Now that Mr. w. T. Culpepper has stepped down, it seems morally right that the candidate having the next highest number of votes should be nominated by the First District House Committee when it meets in ,the next several days . " Last May, W. Stanford White pledged his best efforts in service to the people of the First District. He has renewed that pledge. For 25 years, W. Stanford White has been in public service. The experience he has gained is waiting to go to work for us. Since the Primary, others who did not choose to run then are seeking this nomination. In fairness to the people who have already spoken their choice at the polls , we ask your support for W. Stanford White. , Together, we can put the First District - First in North Carolina. Sincerely, TUESDAY IN ROANOKE RAPIDS Mrs. F.T. Johnson, Mrs. T.W. in Roanoke Rapids. FROM EMPORIA Mrs. G.W. Harrell of Em poria, Va. was a guest of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Pitt on Tuesday.
