Rev. Irwin And Mrs Groy To Leod Proyer The Rev. E. Irwin Hulbert, J r., Rector of St. Peter's Episcopal Church Washington, N.C. and Mrs. A. Landon Gray of Waverly, Va. will lead a series of Prayer Studies for the Congregation of the Church of the Holy Trinity, Hertford, and the Churches of the surrounding area. The study series will begin on Sunday evening November 19th and continue oh the 20th and 21st from 7:30 until 9:00 p.m. The Prayer studies are being sponsored by the St. Catherines Guild of Holy Trinity and the Anglican Fellowship of Prayer-an International Organization devoted to Prayer and its study with Mrs. Samuel M. Shoemaker as its Executive Director. On Sunday evening the Rev. E. Irwin Hulbert, Jr. and a group of St. Peter's Laymen (Mr. and Mrs. Jonas Harrell, Mrs. Jeff Cayton, and Mrs. Sam Mordecai) will guide a panel discussion directed towards "Barriers to Prayer" and "Listening to Prayer". On Monday evening Mrs. Gray and one of her friends from Southern Virginia will present "Interessory Prayer" and Observance Day The Annual women's Day observance will' be held at Winslow Grove A.M.E. Zion Church Belvidere, N.C. Sunday November 19,1972 at 11:00 a.m. The guest speaker will be Mrs. Annie R. Gordon of Union Dale, N.Y. The theme will be The Role of Christian Women in Building Black Churches in our time. Mrs. Gordon is a graduate of the North Carolina A&T State University Greensboro, N.C. where she received a B.S. degree she also did Graduate study at A&T State University. And is now planning to enter Hofstra University in Hemp stead N.,Y. for a M.S. degree in Social work. Mrs. Gordon was imployed at the P.W. Moore Jr. Sr. high school in Elizabeth City N.C. ,1961-62. She resigned to resume a position at the Perquimans Co. Union School, Winfall, N.C. from t2 to 69. She was a graduate of Perq. Co. Union School. In Sept. 1969 Mrs. Gordon was employed with the department of social services at West Bury, N.Y. where she maintains .the position as Supervisor of a youth group. The Galilee Etts of Weeksville, N.C. will render music. Mrs. Whedbee Is Hostess To Bridge Club Mrs. S.M. Whedbee en tertained her bridge club Thursday afternoon at her home on Front Street. Those playing were Mrs. H.A. Whitley, Mrs. S.P. Jessup, Mrs. J.H. Newbdld, Mrs. C.A. Davenport, Mrs. J.R. Futrell, Mrs. W,.G. ' Edwards, Mrs. Grace Llewelyn, and Miss Elizabeth Tucker. On Tuesday evening the group will meet in the Parish House for a workshop-discussion on the subjects presented the previous nights. The Rev. Mr. Hulbert has been in the Episcopal Ministry 27 years and has been a leader in the practice and study of Prayer in each Diocese where he has served. , Mrs. Gray is a member of the International Executive Committee of the Anglican Fell owship of Prayer and was recently appointed by Bishop Rose of Southern Virginia to the chairmanship of the AFP committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia. Sub-District UMYF Meets At New Hope The Chowan-Perquimans Sub-district U.M.Y.F. met Sunday, November 5, 1972, at 5 p.m. at the Chamber's Beach near New Hope. The meeting was called to order by the vice-president Barry Lane. We prayed the Lord's Prayer together. For the devotional Barry Lane read Psalm 150. The New Hope U.M.Y.F. presented the program which was a Galilean Service. The Young Believers, an in terdedominational group for Christ, participated in the service. Afterwards the minutes were read and approved and the roll called. The treasury report was given. Under old business each local U.M.Y.F. was reminded to turn their $50 into' the sub-district treasurer as soon as possible. Under new business we were told of the District meeting which was to be held November 12, 1972, at City Road United Methodist Church from 3-5 p.m. The meeting was adjourned with the U.M.Y.F. benediction. A light supper-snack was served afterwards by the host church and enjoyed by all. Rook Luncheon Mrs. G.R. Tucker was hostess to her rook club at a luncheon Wednesday at her home on GrubbStreet.Thoseplayingwere Mrs. J.E. Morris, Mrs. J. H. Towe, Mrs. Walter Dale, Mrs. C.E. Cannon, Mrs. Julian White, Mrs. John Coston, Miss Mary Sumner, and Miss Gladys Felton. October meeting of the Wynnfork 4-H Club. The 4-H T.V. series will be seen in six one-half hour programs by students in the Elementary schools in February 1973. Vice president Donna Thach presided over the meeting in the absence of the President - Art Lane. Plans were made for a Halloween party to be held on October 27. A food demon stration was given by Joanne Meads, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Meads and Anne Rogerson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Rogerson on how to make "Sock it to me" cake. The Wynnfork 4-H Club had their annual Halloween party on October 27, 1972 at the County Office Building. The theme for the party was "Ghosts and Goblins". Many of the members arrived in original Halloween costumes. Music and refreshments were provided by members of the club. Chaperons were leader Mrs. Earline White and Kerry Jones, Assistant County Ex tension Home Agent. SCS Career Opportunities Career opportunities with the USDA-Soil Conservation Ser vice are open to college un dergraduates in a variety of fields, it was announced today by State Conservationist Jesse L. Hichs in Raleigh. Those working toward degrees in agriculture, forestry, wildlife' biology, agricultural engineering or civil engineering are eligible to apply for the jobs. Openings exist for freshmen, sophomores and juniors, the state conservationist said. The careers begin with summer jobs as student trainees majoring in the disciplines mentioned, "but they step into full-time professional jobs as soil con servationists, soil scientists and civil engineers when they graduate," Mr. Hicks pointed out. To qualify for employment, he said, "students must qualify in a federal Civil Service examination." Those interested should write or visit the state administrative officer of the USDA-Soil Con servation Service in Room 534 of the Federal Building at 310 New Bern Avenue in Raleigh. This ballgame played from the banks of trained Donkeys is reputed to be wilder than a Rodeo and funnier than a circus. For the game the Guidance Clubmembers have obtained the services of the Nationally known Buckeye Donkey Bail Co., Columbus, Ohio. All local riders will be used for the exhibition and the local boys have gone into serious training for the big event.
