Persons from Plymouth, Columbia, Manteo, Edenton and Elizabeth City are taking the course. (Photo Courtesy of COA staff) A special course, "Uniform Local .. Government Ac counting", is now being taught at the College of The Albemarle. These classes were designed by the Institute of Government in Chapel Hill to teach city and county managers, finance of ficers, and accounting clerical personnel about a new system of accounting. According to the North Carolina Local Government Commission, this new ac counting system recognizes the "limited resources available to cities and counties with a population under 25,000." It also has an improved financial reporting structure so that officials, governing bodies, and taxpayers can understand the financial situation of a city or county more readily. This course conducted through the COA Continuing Education Department is taught by COA instructor P.L. Winslow. Classes began in January and will end in April. Those currently enrolled are: Plymouth; Anita N. Sawyer, City Clerk-Treasurer; Columbia; J.D. Brickhouse, County Accountant and Tax Supervisor; Ken Points, City Manager and Police Chief; Naomi Brickhouse, Assistant Tax Collector; Annette D. Reynolds, Assistant Tax Collector; Manteo, John H. Long, County Accountant for Dare County; Edenton, Betsy King, representing W.B. Monarchy Popular; Brings Pleasure To Many In U.K. LONDON The Royal Family in Britain Is as a general rule taken very much for granted. It is only after events such as the recent Silver Wedding Anniversary of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, when they were much in the news, that people think about the rea sons for their affection for them, their popularity and the point in having a mon archy at all. 1 The Monarchy is as popu larity today as it has ever been. The important reason for this is because it gives pleasure to millions of people, most of whom will never have seen any member of the Royal Family in per son, but just enjoy reading about them, seeing photo graphs and watching tele vision reports of their activ ities. - They are a constant source of interest in a changing world. Today's President or Prime Minister will be gone tomorrow but the Queen will still be there. There have already been six British Prime Ministers in the twenty years of the pres ent Queen's reign. Gardner, City Manager; Elizabeth City, Louise Palmer Koreiba, Assistant City Cleric; Charles R, Forbes, Utilities, Auditor; Lucy H. McPherson,! Utilities Bookkeeper; Sanford! P. Aydlett, City Auditor. ON DEATH PENALTY CORONADO. CALIF. -- The National Association of,; Attorneys General has, re-' commended that the death penalty be restored for cer-, tain crimes. The resolution asked that "the death pen alty be provided as a legal nnnis.hmfnt where it Is ap propriate by the congress and the state legislatures within their respective jurisdictions."
