S? iJJ )y )Jb )Ji 15, 1973 Poster Contest Winners Winners were announced Thursday morning in the Perquimans County Con servation Poster Contest. The contest is sponsored annually by the Perquimans County Board of Soil & Water Con servation District Supervisors. This event was the climax of a course of study on conservation conducted in the fourth, fifth and sixth grades during the month of February. The students studied conservation and prepared individual poster for this contest. The posters were not restricted to Soil & Water Conservation, but to any sound conservation idea of our natural resources that the student wished to present. County winners in the contest were: Fourth grade, Carta Skinner, first place; Hertford Grammar School; second place, Edward Modlin, and third place Dennis Godwin both from Perquimans Central Grammar School; Fifth grade, Bonnie Underwood, first place, Hertford, Grammar School, second place, Mark Stevenson, Perquimans Union School, third place, Jeffrey Vaughn, Hertford Grammar School; Sixth grade, Mark Pierce, first place, second place, Reggie Boyce, and third place, Russell Lassiter all from Perquimans Union School. The posters were judged on how the conservation idea was presented, 50 points, originality, 25 points, artistic ability, 15 points and neatness 10 points. Prizes were presented to these winners by Com mitteeman, Carroll Williams at the Perquimans Central Grammar School. First place winners received $5, second place winners $3 and third place winners $1 each. First and second place winners are invited to compete in the Albemarle District Contest to be held in Elizabeth City, N.C. at the Holiday Inn, March 28, as guest of the Elizabeth City, N.C. at the Holiday Inn, March 28, as guest of the Elizabeth City Chamber of Commerce. At this time district awards will be presented. TRUEBLOOD Irving Matthew Trueblood, 64, a farmer of Rt. 2, Hertford, died suddenly Monday morning at 9:45 in his home. A native of Perquimans County, he was the son of the late Madison and Mrs. Henrietta Larie Trueblood. He was a member of the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Katharine Perry Trueblood; two daughters, Mrs. T. M. Stallings of Winfall and Mrs. Robert Lee Lane of Chesapeake, Va.; three brothers, Walter Trueblood of Winfall, Linwood Trueblood and George Trueblood of Rt. 2, Hertford; three sisters, Mrs. Lewis Lane of Elizabeth City, Mrs. Raymond Trueblood and Mrs. Lula Lane of Rt. 2, Hert ford; a half-sister, Mrs. Ben Lane of Rt. 2, Hertford; five grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles Duling and the Rev. W. R. Pinner. Burial was in' Cedarwood Cemetery with Swindell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. MRS. A native of Perquimans County, she was a daughter of Richard A. and Mrs. Emma Riddick Baker and the widow of John William Jethro. Surviving besides Mrs. Sawyer are two other daughters, Mrs. Kathryn Williams of Corapeake and Mrs. Elisia Matthews of Garner; a son, John Jethro of Darasco, Arkansas; two sisters, Miss Pearl Baker and Mrs. Cora Skinner of Edenton; 12 grand children; and 16 great grand ' children. Funeral services and burial were held in Edenton Tuesday afternoon. DANIEL L. STALLINGS BELVIDERE - Daniel Lee Stallings, 70, a retired farmer of Rt. 1, Belvidere, died last Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. in a Lumber ton Hospital following a long illness. A native of Perquimans County, he was the son of the late James E. and Mrs. Christian Virginia Stallings. Surviving are nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held . Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the Swindell Funeral Home by the Rev. Waldo Smith, pastor of the Upriver Friends Meeting. The Upriver Choir sang' "Goodnight and Good morning". They were ac companied by Miss Johnnie White, organist. The pall was made of white chrysanthemums, red car nations and fern. Pallbearers were W: S. Winslow, Aleck Stallings, Wallace Baker, Quincey Rid dick, Ellis Winslow and Jack Stallings. Burial was in the Upriver Cemetery.
