TIm rerquknansWitkly, tbrtford, N. C Thursday, Much 2 197-fa 7 1 By Jod Perry Well, faithful followers of the Perquimans Weekly, it's time to take another trip from the ordinary everyday around-the-house chores, sit down, and relax while reading the society news (and hopefully, etc.). So here are some of the latest happenings about the P.C.H.S. campus. .The Beta Club has been busy deciding whether to go to the National Beta Club Convention in Asheville on April 6, 7, and 8. Some of the students are going to drive to this occasion because a driver for the ac tivity bus could not be found. There's even room for you sports buffs at P.C.H.S. Intramural basketball games are now being played in the gym during lunch to give students something to do with their time after they finish eating. Baseball season has also begun at school with the Pirates falling prey to North-, eastern High School's outfield and batting and lost by one run last Thursday afternoon. One of our former teachers, Earl Willis, is back at P.C.H.S. teaching civics and physical science, after being discharged from the army. P.C.H.S. 's school newspaper, "propinquity," (a merciless plug) is on sale at Woodard's Pharmacy, if you would like a copy to take home and read. It's crammed full of interesting articles and various bits of humor including 'Vords of wisdom" "you can't buy meatballs"; "Perry's Podium" (another plug), and "sell your jeans". There is also a record review and an editorial on skipping -sjhool (you older folks do remember that, don't you?). And there's the ever-popular sports page. Cynthia Norman, a senior at P.C.H.S., has just returned from Washington, D.C., where she spent the week of April 17 24 at the Presidential Classroom. She met Senator, "Sam Ervin and received . a letter from Senator Jesse Helms. She visited places of interest in and around Washington, such as the Washington Monument, the Pentagon, the Smithsonian Institute, and the Lincoln Memorial. While in the Senate chamber,,. Cynthia saw Senators Humphrey, Muskie, Kennedy, and McGovern. She attended several seminars on the various aspects of the federal government. The purpose of the Presidential Classroom is to give students a better understanding of the workings of the federal government. Let me leave you with this thought. ....Today Is The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life. Safety Last "What's making you look so angry?" "Nothing much. I cut my self with a safety razor. burned myself with a safety Match, and nearly got run over while reading a safety first notice." 71 PLYMOUTH Fury III 71 MACHI 71 LTD 2 Dt ft Top 71 LTD 4 Pi.
