and Sale wai held Wed
nesday, May 2, at the Jaycee
Fair Grounds in Elizabeth
City. .
. There was a total of 15
stders and 48 hogs exhibited
in the show.
- Perquimans County 4
H'ers captured top honors in
both steer and hog divisions.
, The Grand Champion
steer was shown by Edward
Winslow, son of Mr . and Mrs.

Belvidere.

Schools will close on June 1.
The final teacher work days

The Albemarle Area
Development Association
along with the Albemarle
Regional Planning and
Development Commission
' has invited Mr. George W.
Marshall, District Director
of the Small Business
Administration to give an
information training session
to the bankers and
developers of the 10 county
Albemarle. This is the
second session of a series.
Because SBA can play a
very important part in the
total development of our
area and because the banks
will be approached more and
more to participate in this
devlopment, we urge you to
attend this meeting which
will be held at: 1:00 p.m.

have with him Mr. Sandy
McKeel who is in charge of
the 502 programs in the SBA
District Office at Charlotte,
North Carolina. Any wishing

Geroge Wheeler Marshall
was appointed District
Director of the U.S. Small
Business Administration in
the Charlotte District Office
on April 26, 1970.
Prior to assuming the
highest position in the State
of North Carolina for the
Agency, Marshall was an
Area Representative with
. the Savings Bond Division of
the U.S Treasury in
Greensboro for one year.
In 1961 he established and
operated his own business,
Master Printers Company,
which dealt in design of
office procedures for
business systems, including
".layout; printing and. in?,
stallation of systems.
He was amply trained for
entering such a business by
his previous experience with
Ditto, Inc., which firm he
joined in 1948. He continued
with that company until 1981,
serving in various capacities
in many cities, culminating
in his transter to Greens
boro. Marshall completed high
school in Townville, Penna.
and was graduated from
Chicago Technical College in
1951, majoring in electrical
engineering.

I He fulfilled his military
obligation to his country
when he served in the U.S.
Navy from 1943 to 1945,
receiving a Presidential Unit
Citation. His career with
Ditto, Inc. was interrupted
by his recall to active duty in
the Navy during the Korean
Conflict from 1951 to 1952.
He has been active in
Republican polities since
1960, serving as a candidate
for the State Legislature and
finally being named
Alternate to the Republican
National Convention in 1968
by six Congressional District
Conventions.
Born in Chicago, 111.
September 22, 1925, he is
married to the former
Marion Louise Mattmuller
and has 1 son, Gary, 23
years, and 2 daughters,
Carol, 21 years and Marie 15
years. -

RECEIVES AWARD Carroll V. Ward, Rt. 1, Belvidere, was commended for 53
years of continued membership in the William Paul Stallings American Legion
Post. Ward was a member of World War I, serving in the 30th division of the U.S.
Army. The 78-year-old gentleman was presented the award by post commander

The Office of the Adjutant
General in Raleigh recently
announced that World War 1
Veterans would receive a
Service Medal. These
medals were authorized by
the General Assembly in
1919, "to commemorate the
state's appreciation of the
distinguished 'services
rendered by the soldiers
and sailors from North
Carolina in World War 1."
Post 126, American Legion,
Hertford,., N.C. has these
medals for WWl'veterans In
this area. They will be given
out on Flag Day, June 14, on
the Courthouse lawn during
the ceremonies on this date.
