Name Changes
The Eastern Tuberculosis
and Respiratory Disease
" Association changed its :
name to Eastern Lung
Association effective April
26,1873.
The name .change con-
. forms with a move by the
National Association, which
has changed Its name to
. American Lung Association,
and by the State Association,
now the North Carolina Lung
Association.- Both were
"tuberculosis and
respiratory disease"
. associations. ;f-.:-;.v -..;: ;
Rowland Pruette,
President of the Eastern
Lung Association,, said
shortening of the agency's
name will make it easier for
the public and groups to
' identify with the agency and
its work.
' He emphasized the
change is in name only. "The '
goal of the association
remains the same: the
prevention and control of
lung diseases. We will
continue to appeal to the
public to support our im
portant work through the
annual Christmas Seal
campaign."
Under the leadership of
Dr. Joe Pou, 1972 Christmas
Seal Chairman, $91,987.60
was contributed in the
Eastern Lung Association's
22 county area. Of this
amount, total contributions
for the following county is:
Perquimans County
$2,020.81.
Pruette said this support
enables the ; association to
provide information
programs about lung
diseases', support
professional education and
research, and support
cooperative work with health
departments, schools,
colleges, nurses, doctors and
social welfare agencies for
the com m unity .s general
health.
Funds contributed to the
Eastern Lung Association
through the annual
Christmas Seal Campaign
will continue to be spent in
the area oh these efforts,
Pruette said.
The National organization
was formed in 1904; the
North Carolina agency two
years later. Affiliate
agencies like the Eastern
Lung Association, evolved
5 from local service units into
agencies serving various
' region of the state.

Association serves the
