Underwood Home Economics Extension Agent The life and beauty of good furniture is lenghtened by proper care. The best treatment for maintaing furniture's lovely sheen and beauty and for protecting it from daily wear is to keep it clean and waxed, remembering always to rub with the grain of the wood. If your furniture had "care" directions when purchased, follow the manufacturer's directions. . Keep furniture away from open windows and artificial heat. Too much humidity may cause swollen and warped furniture. Dry air may cause cracks and loose joints in furniture. For daily care, a supply of good dust cloths is important. Old cheesecloth, flannel, wool and chamois are most satisfactory. Dust cloths can be made by applying enough cleaning wax to make the cloth feel damp. Hang out to air serval hours. Store in jar. Waxed furniture is easily dusted because the surface is hard and dry. A slight amount of rubbingi used in dusting enhances ths beauty of the wood and the finish, giving the surface a soft sheen. Waxed furniture should be dusted often, using soft, line-free cloths. NEVER USE OILED OR TREATED CLOTHS ON WAXED FURNITURE. Oils soften the wax and make it stick, causing it to catch and hold dust and to become dirty. Shellacked finishes are sensitive to water, alochol and heat. For periodical cleaning test, your finish (inside of a leg) with alcohol. If the finish becomes soft or tacky, it is turpentine or a solvent s cleaner to clean. " RICKS LAUNDRY & CLEANERS SERVING .
