Mrs. Muldrow said. She worked as a seamstress most of her life, but as a result of an injury from an automobile accident last year was unable to continue her profession. After looking into the possibilities of typing and bookkeeping courses, Mrs. Muldrow enrolled in the liberal arts college transfer program. Mrs. Muldrow has qualified for' work grants my guidance counselor was most helpful she said. "I would like to major in business administration, but I'm also interested in teaching." "It's been 24 years since I've studied, so it takes a little longer to do my homework." "I thought college was for young people, but found it is for everyone. The students treat me like "one of the girls." There is no generation gap, not even with the teachers. Mrs. Muldrow is the former Peggy Sawyer of Perquimans County. She returned home from Tampa, Florida, to raise her four daughters in a small town. Her younger children, Pam 10 and Sandy, 11, have offered to help their mother with homework and pitch in with housework, too. "I've always tried to stress education to my children, the attractive mother said. Her oldest daughter, Darlene, 23 is a registered nurse. She received training at Obici Hospital in Suffolk and has completed requirements for nurse practicioner from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. "I still don't believe I'm going to, college, Mrs. Muldrow said. "It's the most fun I've had in my whole life." Kathy, a bride of less than a year, is enrolled in the college liberal arts program. She is majoring in English with a minor in ' journalism. She plans to transfer to Elizabeth City State University and after completing requirements enroll in graduate work at Chapel Hill. "Mother and I study together sometimes," Kathy said. "I showed her where classrooms were, but she's pretty independent now." The valedictorian of her . class at Perquimans County High School, Kathy became interested in journalism as editor of the school paper. , She received the News and Observer award for most outstanding, high : school staff writer. : ' Kathy attended . the Governor's , School in Winston-Salem her' junior year and specialized in English.
