FRIERSON Northeastern District Publicity Chairwoman - The Perquimans County Homemakers Awards and Spring Achievements program for 1974-75 was held recently in the auditorium of the Perquimans County Office ( Building. Mrs. William1 Modlin, County Council President, presided. The song of the month, "Fairest Lord Jesus," was sung and the devotion was given by Rev. Ralph Knight, pastor of Chappell Hill and Whiteville Grove Baptist Churches. The county program of work report was given by Mrs. Donald Madre. She used variations of flowers to, denote progress made each month of the year. The guest speaker, Robert G Tulloh, the Central Atlantic representative with the Pan-American Coffee Bureau, was introduced by Mrs. M.B. Taylor, Home Economics Extension Agent. The topic of Tulloh's talk was "Ways With Coffee." He presented the story of coffee and the various stages through which it progresses before reaching the market. Tulloh stated that a coffee tree produces only one pound of coffee a year for produces 35 years. He added that coffee is not harmful even for children and that it is non addicting. Tulloh said a soft drink has more harmful ingredients that coffee and that drip coffee yields a better taste than any other coffee making method. He gave several recipes using coffee and following his talk, there was a question and answer period. Mrs. Modlin thanked the guest speaker and presented him a gift from the homemakers. Awards were made by Mrs. Paige Underwood and Mrs. MB. Taylor, the county Home Extension Agents. Mrs. Ralph Harrell of the Snow Hill-Whitehat club accepted the Club of the Year Award. Helen Gaither Club won the five dollar award for most club points. Mrs. J. B. Basnight won an award for 36 years of perfect attendance. Follwoing the awards, the club collect was sung to the tune of "America the Beautiful" for adjournment. Refreshments and decorations were provided by the Belvidere Extension Homemakers Club.
