The Pirates of
Perquimans High finally got
a break from t the
weatherman the first part of
last week, that enabled both
the track and baseball
teams to continue their
winning ways,
The thinclads from
Perquimans scored their
second victory of the short
season when they scored
854 to Northampton's 384
and Scotland Neck's 13
points. The Pirates were led
by Oliver Felton and Donald
Reid who both turned in
double wins.

The Chowan Academy
Chargers continue their
winning streak boasting
their season record to 2-0 by
defeating the N E W. Rebels
from Rocky Mount by a
score of 6-1.
Chowan's Ace pitcher,
Howard Williams, went the
entire seven innings,
allowing only one hit,
striking out 14 and walking

' Chowan rallied in the
second inning when lead off
.batter Dennis Layton
smashed a double into
'center. Lonnie Bunch
followed with another
double into right scoring
Layton from second and
Jeffrey White singled to
Fight, scoring Bunch. With
one out Joey Towe walked
qnd Johnny Parrish bunted
to load the bases. Then
Elbert Layton hit a double
into left scoring all three
runners. Elbert Layton then
scored off a double by
Richard Bass to end Chowan
scoring for the day. Chowan
left 5 men on base. N.E.W.'s
score came on a pick off
play to third when catcher,
Jeffrey White over threw
third scoring N.E.W.'s long
score, N.E.W. left 9 runners
on base.

Chargers added another
victory to its undefeated
baseball - season by
defeating Albemarle
Academy of Elizabeth City
93 in a seven inning thriller.
! All of Chowan's runs came
iii the first four innings of
play. In the first inning
Elbert Layton scored from
second on a double by
lyonnie Bunch to left field.
While in the second inning
Gary Snith scored on ; a
single by Jeffrey White who
scored from third off a
sacrifice fly by Layton, then
Art Lane went home when a
pick of play by Albemarle's
Pitcher was high allowing
Lane to score. The highlight
of Chowan's scoring came in
the third inning when Mike
Tynch sent Godfreys ball
sailing over the fence for a
two run homer. Other scores
for Chowan came from Gary
Smith, Dennis Layton, and
Howard Williams. "it

Gates and brought back a
conference victory.
: Perquimans led by the 2 hit
pitching of Kenneth Ray
Boyce bested Gates 8 to 1. In
the first inning, David White
walked, Kelvin - Roberson
singled scoring White and
biggest inning. However, it
was Dennis Layton
Chowan's pitcher who got
things back on the track for
Chowan and came away
with the win. Dennis Layton

Freshman Marvin Hunter
turned in a very good game
by striking out 7 and
allowing 3 hits! The scoring
as is follows: 5th inning,
Kenneth Ray Boyce walked
and was singled in by Clark
Winslow's hit. In the top of
the 7th. Marvin Hunter .
reached base on a fielder's
choice, and was moved to
second by Chris Harrell's
single. Wayne Baker
reached base on an error
which scored Hunter. Don
Matthews reached base on a
fielder's choice that scored
Harrell. Mathew Miller
reached first on an error
that scored both Baker and
Mathews to end the scoring.
The leading hitter for the
game was Chris Harrell who
was 3 for 4.

N.E.W. lead the scoring in
the first inning by one when
the lady Chargers failed to
score, In the second inning
the chargers came back to
score four runs to lead the
ballgame. By the bottom of
the fourth inning the score
was tied at s but not for long.
The Chargers came alive in
the fifth inning with 7 runs
and held N.E.W. with three
batters up three down until
the 7th inning when N.E.W.
snuck in their 6th and final
run to give the lady
Chargers another victory.
The winning pitcher was
Jean Parrish the loosing
pitcher S. Teachey. The
Chargers played a good
defensive ball game and
received help on the offense
by the batting of Jean
Parrish 3 RBI Jane Parrish,
Florence and . Pam
Berryman with 2 RBI and
Cindy Bass 1 RBI.

On Saturday, April 12,
Chowan Academy hotted
Albemarle Academy in
softball, Despite a delayed
start Chowan led the
ballgame from their six run
second inning to the seventh
inning. Albemarle failed to
score against the lady
Chargers until the fourth
inning with two runs. The
Chargers continued to score
with one run in the fourth
inning and three in the sixth.
The Chargers defense held
the Colts to two runs in the
sixth and seventh innings to
give the Chargers a three'
win no loss record for the
season.
. The Chargers winning
pitcher was Jean Parrish
and Colts losing pitcher was
Mary Sue Wright. The
Chargers defense did not
stop with pitching they had
3 up 3 down innings. As well
as a fine play from left
fielder Florence Berryman
to shortstop Cindy Bass to
Catcher Parrish at home to
