Concerning the Jaycees, he said, "In The Jaycees, I see young men helping other people. I see young men involved, concerned and taking action. Jaycees are taking an interest in the youth of this country and his nation's problem areas." According to Oxendine, a Jaycee has to be dedicated, concerned and involved. He reminded those present that membership in the organization takes a lot of effort and he encouraged them to put forth that extra effort. Concerning America, Oxendine said, "The past is gone, we can't change it ; the future is to come, we can shape and mold it; but the present is here, and we've got to take action now."
