Tuesday the Pirates defeated w Northampton 13 to 5. Marvin ; Hunter Jr. led the Pirates ; with his pitching that . allowed 4 runs in the first , inning and only a lone score in the remaining six innings. , Friday the Pirates checked Gates in a 2 to 1 contest. Kenneth Ray Boyce pitched the Pirates to ; victory. These two wins, learned with a Camden lost put Perquimans back in first place, a place they have been all season but they were a one point tied with Camden. The Pirate baseballers have only two games left in regular season. The tournament starts Friday May 9 with the teams from the East matched with the West teams. Good luck Pirates, Let's repeat last year's performance and win that championship! Track Team Readies For Conference Meet ' The Perquimans Pirates track team, winners in every regular season meet, are preparing for the Conference meet that will held at Northampton May 1. The Pirate thinclad are led by Oliver Felton, holder of the school's shot record, James Smith, the school's record holder in the mile, and Donald Reid, a record holder in the 100 yd. dash. I Bra iJta Soil Week Set Soil Stewardship Week, a nationwide observance which emphasizes man's responsibility to protect and conserve soil, water, and other natural resources, will be May 4-11 this year, Floyd Mathews, Chairman of the Perquimans County Conservation Committee, ' announced today. This year's theme, "Test of Strength," emphasizes "how the many changes now occurring in the nation 'test our strength' and affect our continuing responsibility to be good stewards of the land," said Mr. Mathews. Mr. Mathews cited food and energy shortages, environmental pollution, and the growing concern over land use as examples of changes and development affecting the use of America's natural resources. "We hope,'" said Mr. Mathews, "that during Soil Stewardship Week, millions of Americans will pausing for a moment to consider their responsibilities for the protection and use of the Lord's earth." Members of the Perquimans County Soil Stewardship Committee, are Foyd Mathews, Carroll Williams, and Elmer Lassiter. The district, has provided local churches with bulletin inserts and -copies of this year's observance booklet. The Material was prepared by the National Soil Stewardship Advisory Committee of the National Association of Conservation Districts. The advisory committee is composed of churchmen of different faiths. Nineteen hundred and seventy-five will be the 21st consecutive year that the Perquimans County Conservation District, along with almost 3,000 similar districts throughout the nation, has sponsored Soil Stewardship Week.
