Whedbee, following the meeting of the Town Council on Monday night. LOCAL INSURANCE AGENCY IN BUSINESS QUARTER OF CENTURY: Charles Johnson is in receipt of a letter from the New York office of the London Assurance, one of the firms represented by the local firm of Johnson, White & Co., calling his attention to Full Enrollment BOONE Appalachian State University will not admit new students for its spring semester due to a capacity enrollment this fall. Three exceptions will be made to the enrollment freeze, according to C.H. Gilstrap, director of admissions at Appalachian. Gilstrap said that Appalachian would continue to receive and admit for the spring semester applications from graduate students, transfers completing college parallel programs at community or junior colleges, and previously-enrolled ASU students who apply for readmission. Gilstrap said that the university also would honor committments to some 50 entering freshmen and transfers whose applications are pending. "We are over enrolled, our faculty is overloaded, and we are faced with budget limitations in our state funding," Gilstrap said. Appalachian is receiving state funds based on a full time enrollment of 7,250 students.
