Pge 4 The Perquimans Weekly, Hertford, N.C., Thursday, October Local Members Attend Area BPW Meeting 9. 1975 hi I An Eastern Area meeting of the ' Business and Professional Women's Clubs was held October 4-5 in Nags Head, N.C. Those representing the Hertford club were Suzanne Stanton, president; and club members Bonnie White, Ellie Mae Vickers and Linda Grieve. The meeting began with a luncheon on Saturday afternoon with guest speaker Ms. Margie White, General Manager of The Galleon Esplanade. Workshops were held that afternoon on the topics of finance, foundation, legislation, membership, the i young careerist program. A dinner was held Saturday night with Bettye Powell, State BPW President as the guest speaker. Ms. Powell will be attending a White House Conference this week. The weekend ended with an Inspirational Breakfact on Sunday morning. Guest speaker was Mrs. Ruby Blythe, Past State BPW President. i -. One of the major objectives of FBLA is to develop self-confidence and leadership so that these future businessmen and women may participate more effectively in the business and community life of which they are soon to be arr integral part. Officers for the or ganization are: President, Cindy Gossage; Vice President, Diane Rogerson; Secretary-Treasurer, Cheryl Stallings; and Historian, Debbie Ferrell. Mrs. Gayle Freeman, Mrs. Joann Stallings, and Mrs. Marian Byrd are the advisors. Members are: Connie Allen, Mattie Armstrong, Elaine Biggs, Steven Chambers, Patsy Cohoon, Teri Copeland, Judie Dail, Beverly Eure, Terry Eure, Debbie Ferrell, Frances Godwin, Cindy Gossage, Toby Harvey, Cindy Hendren, Malinda Hurdle, Janet Jennings, Katie Johnson, Betty Jones, Cheryl Jones, Armecia Mallory, Kathy Nelson, Reginald Overton, Diane Rogerson, Janet Rountree, Tanya ' Spear, Cheryl Stallings, Venetia Vaughn, Facilla Weeks, Bertha Wells, Stanley Whitehurst, and Kelvin Williams. ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED Mr. and Mrs. J.S.W. Brown of Greenville, N.C. announce the engagement of their daughter, Lois Jean, to James Lee Barrett, son of Rev. and Mrs. Troy J. Barrett of Durham, N.C. Miss Brown is employed at Peoples Bank and Trust Company in Hertford. Mr. Barrett is an employee of Roanoke-Chowan Mental Health Service and works as a therapeutic counselor and supervisor at Camp Chowanoc, Gatesville. Bear's . Beach in Perquimans County. Following a membership drive which lasted about one month the 37 new members were entertained at a fish fry and heard guest speaker Robert Bittle of Elizabeth City. Bittle, a JCI Senator, spoke to the group on Jaycee involvement, and cited examples of how local clubs often take on jobs and community projects which would not be attempted by other organizations. With the added members, the Perquimans chapter now has a member ship of over 100.
